1967 GMC Pickup - Museum Quality

Hello all, I have lurked here for a little while and checked out some great trucks and suburbans. I have been meaning to get pictures of my Dad's GMC pickup. 32 original miles. I hope you all enjoy it .

Unreal! I believe you but this sure is unbelievable. How the heck does someone never drive a new vehicle? I thought the same when I saw Sting Rays with dealer mats and window stickers. I sure ain't THAT guy. it's mighty odd that it has painted hubcaps, side trim, and single mirror on a Custom with nice options. If he decides to part it out, I'd be interested in...

No, I don't think its odd, its correct. What is lacking is the info on GMC's in this early era. GMC's are obviously different in many ways, trim levels and options are not always well documented due to lack of SPIDS (some were not built with them). And also due to lack of factory literature on these trucks.1966 CHevy pickups have SPIDS, 1966 GMC pickups do not have SPIDS. It may have taken till mid in the model run at some assembly plants for '67 GMC pickups to have SPIDS. The firewall interior paint is common on some East Coast assembly plants ( especially Ponitac Mi .) and some mid West assembly plants. If this truck was built in Fremont, firewall would have been body color. Here is a period '67 photo of a '67 GMC with the same trim level. It has the same painted hubaps, but wheels are 17" instead of the 16" on the low mileage pickup. It is a 1 ton chassis cab also, instead of a 3/4 pickup, should be the same trim rules. I believe this truck should go to a museum for sure. General Motors, if they were smart should be contacting you, not the other way around, for the price they spend on a 30 sec commercial. Taking a truck like this out on the road is too much of a risk, only takes a second,being at the wrong place at the wrong time, for its value to plummet.

It is most common to see a Custom with chrome hubcaps "optioned", which would also be "correct". I'm pretty up on these GMCs, but thanks for spreading knowledge to those in need. Don't take this as being nasty, but I'm into geography, too, and while Michigan is certainly in the East (east of the Mississippi), it is by no means on the East Coast. It is nearly in the Mid-West. Technically speaking, Pennsylvania isn't a coastal state because no land borders on the Atlantic Ocean

Thanks for the geography lesson My post rambled on, my mistake, only the hubcap info with photo was for your consumption, the rest should have been on a separate post. The "mighty odd" got me going. Anyways, I love to see '67 3/4 tons with '67 3/4 ton hubcaps, painted or chrome, which unfortunately, is few and far between.

The camper top was something he had laying around and put it on this truck just to get it out of the way to make more space. I remember when I was younger that he had some old cardboard boxes with tractor parts stored in it.

I think the spare is on the R/F. the arm rests on '67s are carry-overs from the prior design. I did think the passenger mirror was only an option on the standard trim level and dual mirrors came on mid and upper level.

For the record, my Fremont built '67 GMC did have a fawn colored interior, and both the engine side of the firewall and the door jambs were fawn as well. The truck never had a SPID. I think it was a fairly early build.

Thanks for the interest everyone. Basically the backstory is that my Grandfather back in 66 had his old farm truck breakdown so he decided to go get a new one which is this truck I have posted. With Grandpa being from depression days he drove the new truck back with parts to fix his old truck. So now the old truck is fixed and he continued to use that so he parked the new one back in one of his barns. My Grandfather was quite the packrat and I think eventually he forgot it was back there as it was stuffed behind some old tractors and farm equipment. It was eventually pulled out of the barn by my Dad and Grandfather about 8-10 years ago. My Dad took it to his place and got it shined back up and running again. The tank had to be pulled and cleaned since it had original gas in it and the carb was very rough so he had to have it cleaned up by a GM shop. The GM boxes that are on the passenger floor is the radio and antenae as I guess they were not installed directly back then by the factory. I could be wrong on that though.

This truck is a GREAT example of how the interior is supposed to look. Especially the gauge cluster and the seat from the pics so far. What's the drive train?

That's a great story, it's neat to see a truck like that and get the story too.
The radio and antenna were installed from the factory, but that one came to the dealer without them on the order sheet when the dealer ordered the truck. Your grandpa liked the truck, but wanted the radio, so the dealer included the radio and antenna. Your grandfather probably saved a few bucks by telling them he would install the radio and antenna himself.

Yes, firewall and door jambs were painted the interior color.
