42 pick up window winder

With this idea I am talking the front window.
Is it possible to recondition these units. Currently I cannot get it out of the dash. But assuming I do can I fix it or do I purchase a rebuilt one?

Yeah, you can refurbish it if the teeth aren't stripped or the stainless strip cracked. It's actually pretty simple. There is a Tech Tip over on the Stovebolt.com on this subject with pictures. Check this out:

I did mine WITHOUT the Tech Tip (hadn't found it yet). Mine was frozen solid and I bought it online for $40 intending to use it as a core for sending to Jim Carter Truck parts. They will refurbish one for $150, but they charge you another $100 if you don't have a core! I figured, may as well take it apart and give it a look.

I tapped it apart with a mallet, used my bench grinder with a wire wheel to clean everything up and lubed the parts with white molybdenum grease. Worked like a charm. I didn't even paint mine because the parts other than the pins and SS strip are aluminum. It looked so good after wire wheeling I just left it alone.

Sorry I don't ave detailed pix. These just show the windshield regulator after I installed it with the stainless arm extended, and below the dash with it installed.

Are you sure your truck is a '42? Is it a former Army truck? I ask because there are VERY few (almost none) '42-'45's here at all. My '46 actually has a '41 cab. I know because according to the Stovebolt website only the '41's had the pot metal ring that bolts in to hold the rear window and mine has it. All the rest of the '42-46's use rubber only and I am trying to verify that.

I suspect my truck is an assemblage of rust free parts put together by a former owner.
I have almost NO rust on my truck at all...and we both know THAT is rare. Drop me a line anytime you want to talk trucks. Best, Dan

I have three bodies. Two of which I have inspected.
The one I am fixing at the moment has rubber on the rear window and clutcg screws holding eveything together inside. The sills, window surounds, steel inner door skin all have clutch screws. The inner door handles are in the door centre, it has no quater windows in the doors. The guards are welded to the inner guards
