55-59 Chevy Gauges

I've seen a gauge panel in the past, it was for the 55-59 chevys ... it solved the problem with most of the billet ones only having a speedometer and not a tach .... the site had nice pictures of it in NUMEROUS colors, red, green, etc ...

It was just a panel, no gauges, but the volt gauge was built into it as it was a digital readout (and freed up a space for a gauge).

Anyone knwo what I am talking about or remember it?

It's not this one

I am sitting here holding the Classic Instruments one. My father in law bought one for his '57. It really is nice and fits great!

The OP stated no gauges just a panel with digital readout....that's why I went with Dakota.

Like the look of the Classic. Prices are getting crazy.

Re: 55-59 Chevy Gauges

I come back to this post 4 years later without an answer still, i do a 2 minute search on Google and find the exact one I was talking about, LOL.

$340 for paintable and $406 for chrome (man trans minus shifter indicators which look bad imo) LINK

This is the Auto Trans one and its indicators, costs about $125 more and looks worse to me.

Then this one must be fairly new (Dakota Digital), never seen it before ... but I like it, but it's very modern looking. $795 though LINK

Re: 55-59 Chevy Gauges

i'm just a fan of the stock gauges, i guess
all the aftermarket gauges look aftermarket afterthought and a little pricey

i converted my amp gauge to a volt gage
lack of a tach bugs me a little, someone needs to come out with a stick on digit tach

Re: 55-59 Chevy Gauges

There is definitely not anything wrong with the stock gauges .. but I've shaved my entire dash and just want something more to go with that look.

Re: 55-59 Chevy Gauges

The dakota gauges are nice, and pricey, but the $400 chrome price on the billet piece... is that without gauges? It would be cheaper to buy the Dakota Digital new gauge set at that price, because the gauges get expensive when purchased separately.
They both look nice but if I was going away from stock, I would go with the NEW Dakota Digital setup you showed in your photo. the old Dakota Digital setup with number values still nice, but a little too 1990's for me.

Yeah, $400 is without gauges .. by the time you put some AutoMeter gauges in there you would near or over $1000.

Re: 55-59 Chevy Gauges

shouldn't be too hard to make a template and cut out a peice of alunimun and drill it full of holes. polish it or chome it.
i've wanted a set of the gauges that classic instruments (made i think) that had roulette style numbers on the faces.

check that, Bonnspeed makes it

Re: 55-59 Chevy Gauges

My bezel was in good shape, bought the gauges at a swap meet, used a damaged roadkill aluminum highway sign for the backing plate, some radio shack leds, and polish. Total cost was about 200 dollars which included the adjustable hole cutter from HD. The repop bezels can be found for 30 bucks. I have the pattern if anyone wants it.

Re: 55-59 Chevy Gauges

I really dig the Dakota setup but the others are nice as well. But in a way it still looks like all the other chevy dashes. I guess I just can't stop cutting and welding but I like custom stuff that's different. My quad set cost $350. No idea what the bezel would have cost if I had to buy it. Nice to be related to a cnc operator!

Re: 55-59 Chevy Gauges

I too like the looks of the stock gauges I’ve been thinking of installing 1 1/2” gauges in the stock gauge. Today I got a tri Auto Gauge set, oil pressure, volt and temp gauges I haven’t been able to find a 1 1/2” fuel gauge yet. The only black face gauge I’ve found was a Stewart Warner gauge that has been discontinued. If any body knows of a black face fuel gauge I would like to here about it. I plan on installing the gauges from behind and fabbing a new back ground plate from alum to fit the new 90 deg. sweep. I still have a few details to work out but I think it will work and still look like a stock gauge.

That's really nice .. I was thinking about making my own but using (2) 3 1/8” gauges and (3) 2 1/16” gauges like the $400 one .. just would have to do without a volt gauge or put it somewhere else .. or see if I could find a digital one, I'm sure with all the Audio stuff out there I could find one.

Maybe like this

or this
