One more Piece of the puzzle

After "striking out" at the Parts-a-Rama swap meet over the week I was able to find a good deal on Craigs List for a narrowed 9" F**d rearend & Summers axles (with 5" Chevy bolt pattern).

After measuring the C10 and the wheel/tire combo I plan on using I realized this housing will work with what I plan to do .... made the call this morning and now it's mine.

So little by little I am gathering what I need to take our C10 from street cruiser (my original plan) to the drag strip..... so even though the BIG SWAP meet was a BUST it's been a good week or so on Craigs list.... BIG Weld wheels & slicks, 400 Turbo trans with manual shift body & 4000 stall convertor & now the rearend.

Having a HARD time finding 15 x 3 1/2" - 4" or 5" .... front wheels with 5" bolt pattern .... finding all kinds with 4 3/4" pattern ...... as you can guess trying NOT to buy NEW to get what I want.... so far I have been doing pretty good at doing that.

Guess I could switch to a 4 3/4" front spindles .... who knows ..... still keep having thoughts of a "straight front axle".... especially after going to the "Gasser Reunion"....HA!!!

For fronts if you find some Center Line Auto Drag's you can have another pattern drilled. So if you come across a 5x4-3/4 or 5x4-1/2, you can have a 5x5 added to them, just messure the center hub hole and make sure it will fit, sometimes a spacer will take care of that also.

I can't tell from the pic, but what spline are the sumer's axels? I run a set that are 17 spline but are very thick. The problem is you can't get a spool to fit them.

I am all set for what I am going to use in the rear for mock-up and plan to build around these to get started with:
15 x 14" Weld wheels with 33" x 15" Goodyear slicks for the strip....

And for the occasional street cruising and show going:
15" x 14" modified Rally wheels (previously used on a pro street Vega) with 32" x15" Mickey Thompson Sportsman tires.

I'll keep looking for those "skinnys" for the front....still plenty of swap meets to go to before this project is ready for having tires mounted on it.

BTW... finally picking up my MillerMatic 180 this weekend..... now where is that "sawsall" ????

I'm going to pickup the rearend later this week (bought it from the same guy I got the Weld wheels & slicks from - Craigs List).... so I'll let ya know then.

Another bonus.... a long-time drag racing friend of mine who runs a 9 second Mustang (all motor) is on-board to help me figure all this stuff out and has been using a 9" F**D rearend and done a couple of back-halfs.

One thing I have learned is you cannot BUY experience.... that's just one of the MANY reasons this forum ROCKS!!!!

Re: One more Piece of the puzzle

Weld still offers a 15x5 with 5x5 pattern, not sure if that backspace would work or not. worth checking into
