Re: 1970 GMC Suburban... for the family

I snuck in a half hour of work while my daughter was napping. I wanted to get the holes to access the handle fasteners in before I had a chance to weld everything up. I am using a 72 door, and the holes are part of the door pull, so they are not flat like the right rear door.

I started out by cutting out the piece I wanted from what was left over from the donor door. I cut one of the bends, flattened out the piece, and cut the excess.

So everything lines up nice... on the right door...

I messed up a little. The two "humps" were supposed to line up. I should have cut a dog-leg in the piece so it included the turn... It kicked my butt for about 2 hours untill I took the pictures and realized my mistake! I measured and measured and measured... I was starting to think my tape measure needed to be callibrated! I am just going to cut out the turn and add it in too.

I figured something was different on the 72 doors but now I know.

Re: 1970 GMC Suburban... for the family

I haven't really had a chance to move forward on anything since I am still waiting on gas. However, I did get another rendering done. I plan on doing a few more for the nursery. It seems like a good place for them! This one is an important one since my wife owns a 48 Chevy pick-up and this will be her project.

Re: 1970 GMC Suburban... for the family

Score!

This is my Christmas present! This is also why my wife said I don't have to buy her anything for Christmas this year! Since the Dana 60 deal got put on hold, we picked up a spare 350 for the Yukon! My wife said that it had to be running before January. We are both VERY excited to have the Yukon back! Once the Yukon is on the road again I will have room to work on the burb. I am really motivated to get goin on the burb again!

Yeah... Hate to keep everyone waiting... I have been cleaning out the burb whenever I get frustrated with the engine. Its nice that one project doesnt frustrate me!

I have not called him on it yet... for what I paid for it, I'm not out anything but time really...

On a side note, I wanted to use the same seat I had in my 96 pick-up in the burb, but I found this on eB@y (sorry for stealing your picture). I am concerned about fit! Anyone seen a split bench out of a 95-99 GM truck in a 67-72? Notice this one is not centered either.

A little bit of fun, here are some pictures one of the guys took of me at work last night

Cell Phone pictures...

I will have more on getting the Yukon out of the way, I am working on the engine today.

Re: 1970 GMC Suburban... for the family

I see you work on big tonka toys. You have lots of mines in the Colorado Springs area.
I installed a seat out of a 2004 Silverado in my 67 Chev pickup. It's good on width, just a little thick for a standard cab truck, I'm 6'3" tall. But I'm going to use it in my suburban when it's ready, then I can move it back further. The only thing is they have integrated seat belts so you need to reinforce the floor so the bolts don't pull through. I welded 1/8" steel plate under the cab where I bolted the seats in. The cupholder in front just cleared my Hurst ratchet shifter. I have to take the shift knob off when the car seat is installed or I can't get it into drive.

No, just one mine, 50 miles away on the other side of Pikes Peak. I have seen the 1999+ truck seats with the integrated seats in 67-72s, but I want to use the earlier 95-98 seats... Hopefully.

Got the block done!

Being out of gas gives me a chance to get the metal fit perfect.

Re: 1970 GMC Suburban... for the family

Got some more help out in the garrage today!

Eldon Jeremy
Born 1/17/11 0837
7lb 9oz 20"

This is the reason I have been so frantic to get the Yukon going and progress on the Suburban underway! This weekend has been crazy!

I am moving all the updates for the Yukon to one of my old threads...

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=386191

FRIDAY

I lost the left front wheel bearings on the Suburban on the way home from work Friday morning, so I was out all 3 vehicles!! A buddy got out of bed to come get me and loan me his F250 for the week. Thanks Les! Since I didn't have the heads ready to go back on the Yukon, my wife made the executive decision to try another motor (this time one with a return policy) hence...

SATURDAY

Check out the Yukon thread for some interesting info on this engine

My wife was having contractions while I was at the junk yard (don't worry, she told me they were not bad enough to go to the ER)

I want to say thanks to the forum members (don't know their user names) who ran into me at the junk yard and offered to help pull the hood! That was very cool! You guys should have stuck around to watch me wheel that hoist with the engine all the way to the front! It was comical! I did the tough man all the way up there! the hardest part was getting it up that little ice ramp at the doors.

SUNDAY

worked on the Yukon all day... didnt want to go to far because of contractions... got pretty close to fire before going to the hospital
