Going to look at a Burb, anything I need to know??

Hey guys, was wondering if you could share some info with me. I am going to look at a 70 Suburban Saturday. I am fairly sharp on the trucks, not so familiar with the Burbs. Are there any certain areas besides on the trucks I need to pay extra attention to? Someone said the barn door hinge area can rust, anything else you guys can help me out with? Thanks, Fred.

If you are familiar with the PU's, then use that same knowledge on the Suburbans. The main thing I would pay attention to, is the rear doors. They like to rust out, and are difficult to repair and hard to replace. Being that rust free pieces are tough to locate, and when you do locate them they could run pretty expensive.

Check the spare tire tub, that area likes to rust out too. If it is rotted, it can be un bolted from the body and replaced with a better used one.
Check the rear door frame, especially the threshold. Theres usually rust there, just be mindful of extreme rot.

Try to get one with all 3 of the OE benches.
The benches are expensive, and tough to find.
This is only if you are planning to use the OE benches for that YOM.

Hey Chris, I appreciate the info. The owner just texted and said it was a tailgate/hatch combo, not the barn doors. Will be sure and check the spare tire wheel tub area. Thanks, Fred.

Don't guess it matters. The suburban deal just went away. Oh well...

Hey Leon. I aint really a Burban sort of guy but thought it would be cool to haul all the grandbabies around in. My grandaughter loves these old trucks and she would have gotten a kick out of the burb. Back to my short beds now. Thanks, Fred.

I think the gates are more prone to rust than barn doors.
