Help identifying a few wires

So, I am working on a 72 Blazer. I got it running and took it around the block but it didn't make it all the way. So, I towed it home and now it is dead in the water.

Clicks but will not crank.

While inspecting it, I noticed a few wires that arent connected. Two are melted and look like junk. The other just isnt hooked up. You veterans are gonna probably think these are stupid questions but bear with me. We all gotta start somewhere

The first is a yellow wire that comes a harness from the junction box for the fuse panel. It appears that it went somewhere around the starter. It is melted from header heat. Had some insulation on it.

The other is a green wire that ran the same route. It also comes from the junction box for the fuse panel in the same harness as the yellow wire (also had another yellow wire that went to the distributor and a purple wire. Crosses over the block and appears to have also connected to something around the starter. It still has a spade connector on it.

The third comes from another harness around the distributor. It has a two way flat plug on it. I am gonna upload pics from my phone ...

It needs a new harness all together because it is a mess, but like most guys, that isn't gonna happen right now.

Re: Help identifying a few wires

You may be able to figure out most of it by looking at the wiring diagram.

It is the pickup truck version, but probably not too different for Blazer. Look at the wire colors and what area of the truck they are located. I think the green wire with cloth cover is the temperature sensor wire. The yellow wire near starter is to provide 12V from the starter to a points distributor during start up, because the points distributor gets lower voltage running power through a resistor wire (white/orange/purple cloth wire) that comes from the firewall connector. If you have an HEI distributor then you are probably not using the yellow wire.

Re: Help identifying a few wires

That’s good info. Does anybody have a clue what the flat plug is?

Re: Help identifying a few wires

Green insulated wire is typically the temp gauge/light but the color wiring diagram would allow you to help yourself.

Wink Re: Help identifying a few wires

Purple is starter wire from key switch. The yellow wire is the old resister wire if it has the original dizzy if it's a HEI then it's not needed. Look right around the back of the fuse panel at the yellow wire it should have the fuzzy insulation around it if it hasn't been changed out. That green wire is your coolant temperature wire.
The double plug may have been the anti diesel wiring on a automatic. Not sure of the plug though.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
