1959 GMC Bus

I just acquired a 59 short school bus. I will post photos soon. It is pretty solid and came with a SBC that looks like it was rebuilt a few years ago before it sat. I have it turning over, but I have the carb off to rebuild it.

Does anyone know of any forums or places specific to these busses? I can't find any and there are a few parts that seem to be bus specific that I would like. (light covers, etc)

The bus is currently gutted and my plan is to make it into a camper inside but leave the outside patina alone

Thanks in advance

Re: 1959 GMC Bus

As someone who manages a bus fleet I can help with modern parts such as lights and lenses. It might be easier to tell what's on your bus with pictures, though.

I can also tell you that in the US you had better not run reds (the high mounted alternating red warning lamps) and "school bus" markings unless you have a valid school bus license. School buses which are marked as a bus must also go through separate school bus safety inspections down here. I'd imagine Canadian officials also take school bus safety seriously so you might want to get official information from local law enforcement. It's usually easy to make it compliant without running afoul of the law.

I too have recently acquired a shorter bus, 1955.2 6700 that was converted in the 80's by the look of the appliances. There is some discussion on the stovebolt forum also.
