Passenger side headlight is dim - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have a 71 C10, the passenger side head light is half as bright as the drivers side. All the connections look ok, any ideas on a fix?

Always check the ground first. I might look good, but 40+ years of corrosion takes a toll.

Connections can look okay and still be electrically poor. Take 'em apart (or unplug them) one at a time, clean 'em, and retighten or plug back together. Dielectric grease can help reduce future corrosion. Might be a good idea to check voltages before, during, and after cleaning the connections. And it's also possible you could have full voltage and a failing headlamp.

A little tough being on the pass side. You'll have to move the battery out of the way to get to the ground wire. There is a black lead coming from the connector that goes to ground about 5'' away from the bulb. Loosen the bolt, clean it up and snug it back down. Should be fixed, if still dim, may actually have a bad headlamp

I clean all connections I can reach with sandpaper and then wipe clean. Dielectric grease eh? I'll get some for the reassembly. I have my whole front end off.

The grease prevents oxidation and corrosion. If you don't have dielectric grease, any heavy grease or even Vaseline will work.

try switching headlights to opposite sides to make sure its not the bulb..
