Had A Good Time Last Weekend

Yes I did, and I'm gonna tell you about it in a minute. First I want to say what my intentions were with starting this thread. It's spring time now (I'm pretty sure yet) and there will be lots of fun things to do ahead. This thread is for everyone and anyone to post about the good time they had once back home from the weekend (or middle of the week...whatever). Don't shy. No, that wasn't a dumb , boring , or uninteresting thing. It doesn't have to be vehicle related. Share what you have so the rest of us can see what all there is to do out there so maybe we can do the same one day.

I went to spring Carlisle. Had a great time freezing my butt off Thursday and that night. Little light right squalls passing through, sunshine maybe a little, then rain and or snow going sideways, high of 45, yes it got windy to add insult to injury, and the best part is it dropped to the low 20s that night... with gusty wind. That's how much fun it is up there. You go through all that and still come back to tell how great it was.

I think I had brought 5 different jackets and a hoodie, long johns, Carhart bibs, vest, and hooded jacket. Friday and Saturday I got sunburnt. I set up on spaces with my froend, we have four friends down the row within sight, and six right across from us. Not that everyone isn't your friend for the weekend. All these guys we have met from right there years ago.

To the best of my knowledge I have never been to Carlisle, and for the life of me I can no figure out how a Pennsylvania piston head didn't ever get there. I guess it is a bucket list item. Weather or not it looked like a great weekend.

That's a fun time for me as well. I have weekends I never fire up a vehicle or touch the road to town. If I can't enjoy taking care of my own needs and staying put where I work hard to own, I wouldn't want to live there.

Me too, allows the true lines to show better. But all YE9s allegedly came with upper and lower, even with single color. Is it an exception or...? The word is, the seller bought this at Barrett-Jackoff. Looks good but crazy high price for what it is if you ask me. It's really not much better than my '72 K2500 Sierra. Both need paint and this one in not an A/C truck. I also have all the OEM Sierra Grande trim for mine, if I wanted to "create" one.

I've asked myself the same about many other events. I stopped going in the '90s/early '00s, but need to sell brought me back as a vendor. This time was hard to squeeze in and was more about enjoying a good time than selling. Didn't bring a careful balance of low to high value parts, no Tonkas, or toys at all. My $100 tobbogan, which is more than fair, got an offer of $60 (guy came by several times), but he didn't want it that bad. Prolly wanted to flip it. I send guys wanting to beat me up so they can make the money packin'. Kind of enjoy that element now. I'm no spring chicken.

Can't go do the good stuff out there when the list is long. I make and keep my own list in my head. Or rather, I actually do have a honey do list but it's which honey to do next! . Getting things done around here comes ahead of that, so I end up with honey don'ts a lot. The gal I just started seeing, just getting to know, was put off by my sudden news of being at Carlisle W-Sat...then having to work on Sunday. I was married a long time. Bent, swayed, gave in for her in every way putting her happiness in front of mine and it did "us" no good. This time around I'm a hard head about what I need to do between now and the day I kick my feet up. The woman who is good with that, and I'm still a romantic who enjoys making a gal happy now, will be the one to keep. What I need is a woman who doesn't need a man's money, just a good man after climbing her financial ladder of divorces from men with money and no class or character who see's all that in me.

So... let's keep this going as the thread was intended. Come back with reports of what brought you happiness over the weekend. This isn't about me, it's for all of us. I enjoy life whether it be staying home, working (for the most part), or being a chore boy all weekend. Here's what I worked on Sunday

Re: Had A Good Time Last Weekend

I guess I'm a rooster since I'm still cocky no matter how hard I try. Though much less than those 40 somethings I was with last weekend. The dad of one, who's spots they were all on, decided to stay over Friday night after extensive persuasion and taking of keys. He's my age and discovered how much fun it could be. He was the life of the party. Not so much Saturday. He reminded me of a scolded child. Very funny to witness. I don't think I heard him say a word. What a sight he was walking down the isle after crawling out of his truck in his his insulated coveralls, socks, and no hat showing his perma-white head and fluffed up hair that usually sticks out his cap. I guess he either lost the cap or it wouldn't fit that head in the morning

Re: Had A Good Time Last Weekend

Now that I live in the west, Carlisle is a bit too far to travel for parts. I miss going to Carlisle. I could get there in 8 hrs from Onterrible. Leave at 10:00 get there for 6:00am search for 12 hrs., hang around with the boys I met over the years, shoot the breeze, Sleep a couple hrs. on the ground and get up and do it all over again for 3 days. Those were the days lol.

Now if I slept on the ground with 2 hrs sleep rigor mortis would have set in.

The next best thing to Carlisle is Portland Swap. A mere 18hr. drive one way for me now but it gets me my fix.

The fruits of Portland were not as plentiful this year but I still had fun! Plus I got to meet up and spend some time with TBONE1964 & Classic Bowties!

Re: Had A Good Time Last Weekend

Tim ,,you always have some interesting photos and fun times to share ,,enjoyed it all...

Cannuckvetter ,, my oldest son went to the Portland Swap meet ( he lives only about 50 miles from it) and he said it rained ,,just like it does about every year.. he did get me a 1939 Washington License plate ,,not seen it yet ,,but he did find one there.. stil waiting for the license plates Mark is sending me.. any one hear how he is doing ?

As for me for the last few weeks Tim,, I and the wife drove out to Santa Barbara California to welcome our new grandson that my youngest son and wife just had .. perfect looking little 6 lb boy ,,named Oliver (Oli for short )

I told every one I had him smiling ,,but they shot that down by saying it was gas.. oh what do they know,, ha ha

We just got back home to rest from it all. .. not sure how much rest ,,got to mow the lawn now ,,but it is always nice to get back home ..

Pics don't do this beauty justice. It may have been one of the nicest vehicles there. Laser straight and incredibly clean and well detailed. You could eat off the bottom of it.

My dad, nephew, and I were there all day friday and saturday. I drove up from SC and my dad and nephew came down from NY. Glad we missed the mess on Thursday. I was cold on friday, but per usual, there were northerners rocking shorts and tee shirts while I was bundled up.

Re: Had A Good Time Last Weekend

It sure was a nice K5 alright. Too bd I missed seeing you. Friday felt warm to all who were there Thursday no matter what part of the country they were from. It got to about 60 and the main thing was the sun was out. There are people who wear shorts all winter up here. They are just as cold as anyone but to much a fool to admit it. If you need a hoodie you need pants BOZO!. Socks, too. I swear I was at the store one day we had a little snow and I saw a guy dodging the ice water puddles in his shorts and flip-flops. Poor guy probably owns a $500k house , drives a $70k vehicle, and can't afford proper clothing . It seems to be a college boy thing. Go to college to get ignorant I guess.

Tim I was working my way to the bottom to mention the lack of upper trim on the Sierra "Grande" when I saw you interrupt yourself with that note.

Gopapa I was about ready to send a search party out for you. Congratulations on the grandson. I hope he gets over the gas.

Good thread.

Re: Had A Good Time Last Weekend

I'm going to make a run up to Cincinnati this week. I'll try to round up some fodder for this thread.

Re: Had A Good Time Last Weekend

I had a nice weekend. The company I work for has been celebrating 60 years this year and doing some stuff for us like taking us all to a hockey game a few weeks ago (I got to ride on the Zamboni) and a baseball game later in the summer. Friday they had a nice catered dinner at the main office. It's always good to see the whole group-there's several hundred employees-and catch up. We get so spread out on our various jobs we never see our buddies.

Saturday I got the yard all cleaned up and mowed. It's still a little early, but half of it gets more sun and starts growing sooner than the rest. The irrigation water ain't on yet, but I saw one of the guys working on it up the street today so I think this week sometime. I need to change some sprinks, but I can't until the water is turned in. This will be the third summer we've been on secondary and I'm still having to change stuff around. Way more pressure than I used to have.

I've been needing to change the glass in my sand blaster cab, so that was Sundays project. It should have been simple. It ended up taking half a day. I've had the glass for a year. I'm sure I gave the guy the correct dimensions. But sure enough, the glass was too big to fit in the cut-out. This is a home-made cab, and built out of plywood, so all I really had to do was cut one end of hole bigger and then route it out glass. Find the saw. Decide that the blade that's on it is dull as a hoe, find a new blade, can't find the router, stop for lunch, remember the router is at my kid's place--it just never ends. At the end of the day, though, success! And as soon as they get around to delivering me a new filter for the vac, I can start taking care of a growing back-log of parts to get a finish on.

Re: Had A Good Time Last Weekend

I've been working on the factory stock on my 223 Axis. Judging buy th results it's working. Now if I could just learn to keep my cheek in the same place I'd be able to avoid those darn fliers. That's a 5 shot group at 100 yards.

After that I broke out my 50 Boewulf to see if the new mags would function. Stupid me left my Yeti mug on the bench. The blast from the muzzle brake blew the lid off. The rifle is still having eject and feed issues but it's better. After some serious looking I found the extractor was hanging up on the heavily debated rim. Since then I have filed and smoothed the radius. This Sunday I'll test it again to verify.

This Saturday my nephew and I will be yanking the TH350 and stuffing in a 700R4. His foster brother wants me to swap out the 350's 9" tail shaft for a 6". That means total tear down of both the donor and the good trans. When they get back to Grand Forks his brother will stuff it in his S10 project.

Then Sunday the 3 of us will have some range time.

Monday night I'll most likely be doing knock sensors on a 2005 suburban, at home side job

Re: Had A Good Time Last Weekend

Previous weekend I spent building a new gun cabinet. Old one only held 7. This one has 10 on back wall. I'll have another 8 standing up inside the front doors. My plan is to have another set of doors in the middle to hold another 6 and pegs on side walls to hold hand guns.

It's nice to make sawdust and play with power tools.
