frame chop

I have a 59 lwb 123" that i am getting ready to shorten for a fleetside short bed ; i know the wheelbase needs to be 114". so basicly i need to cut out 9" of frame and then reattach two peices , i've already cut the 7" off back to line bed up over wheels this was easy part next do i want to cut the frame like this==/ /=== or like this==] [=== . i was told that diagnal would be harder to get all true, but would be stronger; was also told to put a peice of channel insde frame and weld this in. i will not be doing any heavy haullin and plan to 4link it at a later day ,but for now would just like to get the bed mounted so i can keep on cruzzin. would like any advise on my plan of attack or any ideas you guys might have used in your projects also what should gap between cab and bed (i know there should be some clearance) thanks for any thing
