71 gmc swb " Capt Mad Dog"

im finally starting my build on my 71 that ive had for about 5 years now.

here are some pics of previous attemps to start lol but they were when i was in highschool and much more ressless lol and slap things together happy. now is the time for making things nice and customizing but enough talking here are a few pics ill get more of the current build.

pulled the motor and trans today gonna try and get pics tonight. does anyone know a good place to get an spare tire mounted gas tank?

Welcome to the board...if you use the search button there's a bunch of threads of relocatinghg the tank to the spare tire area. But several companies sell the kits as well Brothers, LMC, etc...

thanks i enjoy reading the treads here.

i was looking for the one that a guy was selling on here a month ago or so he had a sticky lol but of course i cant find it. now im just looking for more options i may just mount a fuel cell in bed for the time being.

FuelCellGuy is the guy you're talking about for that...he builds custom tanks for carbed or EFI applications. Really nice work from what I've seen

update on the build/teardown ive got the motor out and front steering now to remove the cab i should be doing that tonight if i can get some extra muscle to help hmmmm....

the short term plan is to get the framecleaned up and c notch installed then clean the other suspention parts i removed and see what i need to replace. then order up my drop spindal and coils fot the front also replacing the swaybar bushings with the poly ones.

oh and yes i plan on blasting it myself im building a small blastbooth to do it in. hopefully it turns out good or im gonna have to locate a shop to go it for me.

more progress got spare crossmember cut out and removed old exhaust hangers. started stripping the frame via wire wheel blaster wouldnt function right heres pics.

well frame is bent . but notch is installed . im really bummed bout the frame i have no idea how much its gonna b to straighten it either .

frames been straightened and adjusted gonna start on the front end cleanup soon.

ok so the project kinda died for almost a year but im back on it and finally got it por 15ed. the next step is to get the upper and lower ball joints replaced and the A arms painted.

got my upper a-arms painted and the joints put in. also painted my calipers,spindels,and springs. monday i shoild beable to mount the suspention up i should have pics of my progress soon.

got a whole slew of parts needin to be put on but i finally almost have a rolling chassie again. been focusing on getting parts to build my stroker motor.

removed the doors and rocker. got the rearend in . installed new calipers wish the tarp didnt blow off the frontend now i have rusty rotors that i just got turned.

thanks guys!!!! can anyone sugest a good place to get shortbed replacement panels i need the drivers side lower by the cab corner. thanks again! my wrecking yards only have the longbeds.
