LED light bar grille

Not sure if this is to everyones taste, but i figured id show off some pics of the grille I recently made for my 72 c10. It has a curved LED light bar set into it and i cut the plastic grille insert so i could flush the light it. It works great puts out tons of light and fits my truck perfectly. (side note ignore the piece of metal in the second photo it was just a shim in place for mock up)

Wow. That looks pretty cool That would be a nice idea for a 69-70 to turn the middle grille section into a light and make it also functional turn signals.

Re: LED light bar grille

First glance I thought it was a 69 or 70 I bet that does shed some light on the road, but is it legal to run them on the road ? Seems like it would blind oncoming traffic.

Blind and/or disorient, I would think. I'm curious about the legality as well.

Re: LED light bar grille

That looks great! I have 2 rigid flush mount sr4 units installed in a custom spoiler. They are hardwired for always on to act as both daytime running lights and supplemental fog lights. Unfortunately as asked above they were too bright. I used two layers of limo black tint along the top half to get them down to "dot". They still work good and no longer blind opposing traffic.

sounds like a neat setup! and the tint is a great solution. as for the legality questions, in CA its in a bit of a grey area as I don't know of any led lightbars that are DOT approved. CA does allow for spot lights but they have a 33Watt max (light bar is above this) and cannot project light to the sides of the vehicle. CA does allow for up to 2 auxillary driving lights that are not less than 16" from the ground and no more than 12" above the passenger compartment. so the short answer is that in legal terms the light bar is not allowed without having a cover or lens that limits out put as it would be considered an Aux light or offroad light. It is alot like the tint laws here in that usually you don't get any trouble but the law is still the law. the bar is angled slightly down so it is not directly in others eyes, but I figure restraint is the best option and the light bar would never be used while driving as it puts out way too much light to be safe for other drivers. I actually use this truck for work, and as such I have found the need to light up a job site at night and for that this setup works great.

That's what I thought too.

Pretty slick idea though.

Re: LED light bar grille

Looks freakin awesome man ! I would do something like that .... Not every driving situation involves oncoming traffic . There's def a lot of times when I'd hit that switch and enjoy that light !

I love it! I also thought it was a 69-70. I was thinking about adding small ones above the turn signals on my 68.

No problem at all, you are welcome to do the same. this is the 50" curved light bar. you need to make brackets but thats not hard at all.

and to everyone else i haven't had time to snap a shot of the light at night yet, hopefully soon.
