GMC E-brake

I have a 71 GMC K-20 and it has the pull handle for the E-brake instead of the foot pedal. Is this correct for this year? I need to know so I don't get the wrong cables.

Re: GMC E-brake

You probably have a 68 cab, unless somebody purposely put a pull handle in.

Re: GMC E-brake

Are there any other ways to tell a 68 cab from a 71? It does have disc brakes on the front but it also has a 14 bolt rear that I don't think it is supposed to have.

Re: GMC E-brake

Probably a truck that over the years has been maintained by putting whatever parts were available to keep it going.

Re: GMC E-brake

No, it SHOULD have the foot pedal.

Are you SURE it is a 14-bolt rear axle or is it a Dana 60? There is POSSIBILITY it is a Dana 70, but you need to look at the bottom corner of the casting to verify if there is a casting # there of 60 or 70.

The 71 GMC should have both shocks on the FRONT of the axle. A corporate 14 bolt will have one shock in front and one in rear (unless they cut off the brackets and relocated them)

Some people LIKE the pull handle E-brake, but they do not work well. They were used in 67-68.
