Barn 57

I've had this car for about 2 years and is kinda the side project when I start thinking my truck is hopeless. It is a 4 door 210 1957 with the original 235 and a three on the tree. It's been my "I hope this works" project that really got me started on welding on old cars besides just floor pans. Its fun to drive now if you don't mind the smoke, rusted out doglegs on the rear doors and A arm bushings that are bad enough when you brake it chunks and moves the steering wheel. I'm not going to do anything more than try to keep it somewhat original.

Re: Barn 57

Here is the fenders, I repaired the left front of the fender. Also had to replace both bottoms. The hood is in the back ground, fenders are next to be painted.... Have to finish the truck first though.

Re: Barn 57

So I'm taking a break from working on the truck and am going to spend some time on the 57. We sold the 53 so I am now able to put it in the garage and I am going to start by taking the bumper and right fender off and getting ready to put on the new.

Re: Barn 57

Nice to see regular guys working on tri fives. Most owners of these don't work on their own stuff. I'm hoping to be done with this part of the project by November and it will be back on the road.

Re: Barn 57

There's the 2 door hardtop in the picture.
The other in the corner is a 4 door hardtop.
Another 2 door hardtop for parts and a 2 door sedan for parts.
I started with 57's when I bought my first at the age of 12 for $50.00.
I've had one ever since-several dozen I'd guess.
They are getting harder to find and expensive.
It's good to see another being re-built!
Mike.

Re: Barn 57

I am starting to take the front apart. I will do the right side first, I have the bumper off and the grilled out. Can you say severe rust damage? And finally not so sexy now are you 57 Chevy?

Re: Barn 57

Yes,that number of shims is normal.
You're really getting in deep!
The dash cluster looks great and the color is perfect(real close to GM's argent silver).
You might need to start looking for an electric wiper motor. The vaccuum motors don't work very well.
If you go to the sites I posted(free to join),there are free parts and for sale areas,as well as assembly manuals on line.
Here is a good parts vendor and great picture refferences-

Re: Barn 57

Actually I found that the heater core is leaking today. And parts of the heater box are missing so.... might have to convert to a AC car. I will have to start saving now. But yeah it had a vacuum motor on it and I took it off, I still have it but they kinda suck. Next week I am hoping to get the rest of the right side suspension off and start cleaning the frame and firewall.

Re: Barn 57

So check out what I am trying. AC comp where the alt was and move the alt up. So its going to be fairly easy to get this car cool inside! I just have to see if the geometery is right on the alt in relation to the comp so I can tighten the belt

I don't think that's going to work without a second belt.
