New SPID

I just wanted to thank Jeff on here for reproducing my new SPID. It looks great. My original didn’t have the clear film over it so I didn’t use one on the new one. Font, size, and color all look perfect.

Anyone need a replacement label email Jeff on here jeff@outintheshop.com

Re: New SPID

Jeff does superb work - looks perfect. 70 wouldn't have had the clear cover, so you kept it true to original. Am also glad to see you ddin't throw a YE9 on there just for grins too

Re: New SPID

There’s enough upbadged vehicles out there already. I actually removed the G60 option on the SPID because I removed it from the truck. But added the heavy duty cooling since I put in the monster 4-core radiator in place of the thin 2-core one.

Re: New SPID

It does look good. The one in my 67 has a little bow-tie with "Chevrolet" printed in it in both the right and left upper corners. I haven't seen one like that reproduced, but I am pretty sure it is original. ??

It depends on how many options you want on it. If you click on the link to Jeff's web site in 65Standard's first post I think it explains it.

I've met Jeff in person at the All Truck Nationals in Riverside, Missouri. Really nice guy.....

For '76 and earlier US built or sold - you are out of luck unless you can find a build sheet in the truck somewhere.

For all vehicles either built in Canada or built in the US for Candian use - you can contact GM of Canada and they may be able to find your option content.

https://www.vintagevehicleservices.com/option-info

For '77 and later - you can send your VIN and $50 to the GM Heritage Center and they will find your original invoice, complete with original option content, pricing, build timing and the original selling dealership.

You sure Jocko? When did they start? My '70 has a covered SPID. Looks original to me, pretty clean underneath. Could have been applied later I guess?

ya know, that's a good point now that I think about it, this has come up before, and others have posted pre-72 covered SPIDS as well, so I think there's enough examples out there to the contrary to disprove the theory. I doubt yours was added.

Re: New SPID

65standard, you new spid looks good, too good.
I suggest you pour a little tea on it, scribble a phone number on it,
and put a grease smudge and greasy thumb print on it.
Then it will look perfect !

Kidding aside, it really looks great.

Re: New SPID

Not only does Jeff do a great job on the SPID itself...He is a great resource and understands a lot of the idiosyncrasies of the different assembly plants and their SPID tendancies. We are building a truck now where the SPID was gone...I really enjoyed the process of making a thoughtful and correct SPID with Jeff. He's knowledgeable and easy to work with. He's a top notch guy and a real asset to this community.

Re: New SPID

Not sure I've mentioned this before, but when I was a supervisor on the line the guy that installed the SPID label (and the floor shifters and the cab running lights) worked for me.

I recall that the clear protective covers would come and go, even during the square body era.

Re: New SPID

Thanks for the kind words about the labels. Very proud to say I have been helping guys (and gals) since 2004 with SPID's and have never had anyone that wasn't completely satisfied with what they received. I really do enjoy the process and working with people to get it right and feel that a correct label really tops off a restoration and I'm always proud to play a small part.
