292-6 Cylinder Intake Manifold Info Needed

Ok....here we go:
A buddy of mine is redoing the intake and exhaust gaskets on his 292-6 cylinder engine.
Its an '65 GMC 1/2 ton and he has started to put it back together after a carb rebuild.
It looks like it has (had?) a pretty substantial vacuum leak so he thought WTH...he'll redo it and get it right and detail the manifold while he is at it.

My question is...what are the do' and don't's of installing the straight 6 chevy intake manifolds and exhaust manifolds??....assuming the process is probably identical for the 250's and the 292's.

I remember seeing something about this once...perhaps here on the website.
It had to do with getting a good fit and seal for both manifolds so there were no vacuum leaks or exhaust leaks.

If anyone has some insight into this....and some good tips, I'm all ears and i'll make sure my buddy gets the info!!

All good and many thanks
Coley

Re: 292-6 Cylinder Intake Manifold Info Needed

Just did one on my old 292 and here is what we did. Pulled it all apart and cleaned it good. Put a new gasket between the intake and exhaust and just snugged it up. Put the assembly back on the motor and installed all the bolts and just pulled them up a bit past snug. The we tightened the bolts holding the intake and exhaust together and then the ones to the head working from the center out. No leaks and all sealed up fine.
