I have owned my 1972 Blazer since 2005, it is a joy to drive. I enjoy the top off and riding to and from work. It was my primary transportation for a couple years. Just something about good tunes and the top down. When I was deployed and away from my Blazer I found The video to Uncle Crackers Smile, where he is driving a black 72 I believe! It really helped me keep focused on the future and look towards the end of my deployment and getting home to my loved ones! Currently installing a new engine and have had some snags but know soon enough we will be back on the road!

Nicely said. I finished restoring my 71 a few years ago and it sees only show, cruise, and icecream duty. It has done extremely well at shows and gets an unbelievable amount of attention from people of all ages. It is the last of the 67-72 trucks that I own now. I am finishing up the resto of my 65 gto and that will probably be the last full resto I will do as I am getting older and it is getting to be too much of a chore. The two cars that I'd like to end up with would be the GTO and a 58-62 Vette. The market is real good for first gen Blazers and if I were smart, I'd sell the Blazer and the hipo Fairlane and I would be close to owning that old Vette. Problem is, I can't bring myself to sell the Blazer as I have gotten too attached to it.

Add me to the list of people that will never part with my 72. I've wanted one all my life. Long story on why but my dad had one and I wanted to be like him. The blazer has been with me through 2 wives, 4 kids, and a lost house. It's the one thing I will have til I'm dead.

Funny because i got talked into mine when i was 18, didn't have the money or the care for it in the world and once it rolled into my shop and with a little encouragement from the family its become the love of my life

I think its funny when i explain the work i did or the hours i put into my blazer and some people look like they don't care or those typical blank expressions......its why i love these forums, we all know the struggle and hard work to get the simplest stuff done and appreciate the end result of the hard accomplishments.......i told a guy the other day i have a rare tach dash and he scratched his head....you say that on the forums, guys are like where can i get one trips me out

Yeah ihave friends with both opinions on my blazer. Some love it and some say why bother. But it is just like anyone's elses car they love. I've had the Chevelles and impalas and other muscle cars. While fun to drive just didn't do it for me like my blazer. My wife calls it the other woman in my life and when four wheeler mags come in the mail she tells me I got more truck porn. Lol.

Geeeez, what's not to like? It looks like a really short '67-'72 pick up, has a LOUD BB chevy engine, 5spd. o/d trans, ps, pb, tilt, A/C, nice radio, BIG wheels n' tires, no top, soft top, hard top.... and I get tired of waving back at people when I drive it around.
I Bought it done a couple of years ago off of this site and it;s been a pleasure to own. It seems to thrive on being run hard.

like the color way ...ochre and white looks clean in 2 tone....ive seen very few in my color (medium gold)

Great post. A Blazer is one of those things, "until you own one, you just don't understand..."

Had a 1970 growing up (Dad bought it new in 1969) and drove it all through high school. Sold it in the early 90s to buy my first house, but NY winters and road salt had eaten that truck alive by then...

I've had mine since I was 19 (44 now). Top off rolling to work is the shiz. Met my wife driving it so she's a keeper of course. I curse the rust when I see it and apologize to her. But she will get a new life soon. Drove it from Cali to Florida. Better make damn sure I'm dead before you try to pry it from my knuckles.

I've had a thing for these old Blazers since I was a kid. My Dad bought a 72 Suburban (2wd) in 1973 that was the family grocery getter/kid hauler for a number of years. When delivering newspapers, I used to ride my bike past a 1st gen Blazer (4wd) every day and always told myself I'd have one some day.

Fast forward to 1992: I'm living in north Seattle and visiting a friend in Kalispell when I comment on a nice orange Blazer I see sitting on a used lot as we drive by. I hadn't given it another thought when a couple of weeks later back home, I see a nice orange Blazer at Bothell Chevrolet while driving home from work. I go home and grab the (now ex) wife, and go back to take a look. At this time, I'm not even thinking about the Blazer I saw in Kalispell, but when test driving it, she pulls the registration out of the glove box and she says "hey - this came from Kalispell". When it hit me that it had to be the same one, I had no choice but to buy it - no further discussion (71 CST).

It was obviously recently repainted inside and out, the interior was perfect and it appeared 100% original other than the wheels. I had to rebuild the original 350 6 months later, but other than that it was solid inside and out. Shortly after, I moved to Phoenix for a couple of years and then to Montana with the Blazer being a daily driver and primary transportation the entire time.

Fast forward a few years (around 2002?): the rebuild on the original 350 lasted 98k so it got a ZZ4 crate motor and it's starting to show some rust on the rockers and lower door skins.

Another 12 years go by and I have a rust bucket with a shot interior, a ZZ4 with less than 60k miles on it and it's no longer a daily driver. Four years ago I decided not to spend the money to restore it, so bought a 72 SWB to stick the ZZ4 in and sell the Blazer. I still have both and the red 72 seems to get all the love these days, though I can't seem to bring myself to part with the Blazer - travelled too many trails together, I suppose...

I always liked any convertible 4x4, regardless of the make/model however the 69-72 Blazers were on top of the list. The sweeping lines and aggressive styling leave little to complain about. I always wanted a blazer but couldnt afford one, and when a cheap Jimmy showed up 5 miles from me I had to look at it, it was ROUGH! however the blazer in the corner of the yard was far less perished, a reasonable sum and my 3-wheler later, I had a blazer in my driveway. It is one of 4 of my vehicles that I will never sell.

Jgray nice pickup and blazer. Maybe restore it some day. I can't ever see getting rid of mine either. Once ou find the one you love never part with it. Just like a good woman.

My current plan now is to keep the Blazer and restore it. I just need to make it a financial priority before I completely lose it to rust. I had a window for that 9 years ago coming out of a divorce with no kids or financial commitments. I remarried 5 years ago and now have 2 grandsons and the older one (just turned 4) already has his eye on the red '72 and will likely get it someday.
