Exclamation Year Motors - able to Bolts Up ?

1954 1 Ton _ 3800 Truck with Original 4 Speed.

Driver's side PTO ..

6 cly. is Gone - SBC in it's Place - still trying to Figure out this
Equipment . .

I Take it I can't just Pull the ( 1977 ish ) Motor and throw in a Roller
Block ? --- LT1 or LS1

Just what Type and Range of Chevy V8's would be a Good Fit .

Due to Trans , Fly Wheel or what else could be an Issue _ gong to a Roller Type Block

Keeping an Eye out for a Really Good Motor as a Back Up

Thanks
Dan

Re: Year Motors - able to Bolts Up ?

Any GEN I small block from '55-'02 will bolt up. If you go with a small block with a one piece rear main seal ('86-'02) you will need the correct flywheel for a one piece rear main seal.

I would not recommend a LT1 or an LS engine for what you are wanting.

Re: Year Motors - able to Bolts Up ?

The 95-99? Vortec blocks were all roller cam. The 87-94 blocks were drilled for roller lifters, but may or may not have been equipped. You won't know until you pull the intake.

The heads on the Vortec blocks had the intake manifold holes drilled different.

With that being said, the heads are interchangeable.

The 87 and newer blocks had a 1 piece rear seal on the crankshaft.

You can always convert to a roller cam too.

Re: Year Motors - able to Bolts Up ?

Nice Stuff - Guys !

So If I get a a one Pc. Seal and Matching Flywheel - it's going to also Cost Me a
Starter to Match said New Fly Wheel .. ( Most Likely ) ?

Vortec Blocks with Roller Cams - may need Screw In ( Hardware ) which is Fine .
But the My Current Intake won't most Likely make the Transfer over .. seeing this Older SMB is a 2 Pc. Rear Seal .. .
Does that also Hit Me up on for a New Oil Pan also ?

Very Cool - making - Plans !

Just through on some New Wires and much better Plugs - Denso's
Found 1 AC Delco Plug had a Rusted inside where they Fuse them together - I Noticed the Porcelain had Minor Crack - LOL - gave it a Bit of a Tug and Broke right Off !

So then I Tested the Good AC-Delco Plugs against the Denso's for - Ohms !
Wow Huge - Difference - ( Night & Day ) !

PO - had Installed 7mm Plug Wires - didn't look very Old - but did those Suck .
I had readings of 135,000 Ohms - 155,000 Ohms - Best was 95,000 Ohms . .

MSD Wires - Nothing Special $42.00 bucks 8mm 12,000 Ohms to 45,000 Ohms
on Longest Wires ..

Spark Plugs AC Delco's - Off the Chart - Over 500,000 Ohms vs Denso 75k-87k . .
Motor is Running Smoother - Now !
