How many 2wd diesel short beds out there.

Since I bought my current diesel short bed I have heard quite a few people say that they never knew or had seen a short bed diesel 2wd before. Are they that rare? I have seen a lot of long bed 2wd's and more 4wd's than anything else myself. Just thought I would ask and see what everyone had to say. How many are on this site as well? I know of two that I am aware of.

Re: How many 2wd diesel short beds out there.

We bought one new in '82: black, short bed diesel, rally wheels.

We used it to pull our 24' fifth wheel trailer.

They are pretty rare for sure. Most people don't know they are possible because GM is the only one who offered a diesel in a 1/2 ton. The GMT400s ended that with only offering diesel on extended cab shortbeds. I think that proves how few they sold in square bodies since they continued offering diesel in Blazer/Jimmys

Re: How many 2wd diesel short beds out there.

I found a short bed late 70's 2wd that had this over the Silverado-10 fender emblem. This was a few weeks ago. It was bent up so I just torn it off to keep it because it looked rare.

You are the only one I know that has one other than myself now. I know alot of trucks got switched over to gas but still not sure there were a lot of short beds to start with.

I have an 84 scottsdale short bed 2wd diesel. Right now I dont have a pic of the truck, but I just dug out a copy of the invoice. So here is a pic of it. The truck in my avatar is an 82 short bed diesel, but it is a 4x4.

Re: How many 2wd diesel short beds out there.

I don't have a picture handy but I had a 82 Silverado c10 6.2 black short fleet that I bought from my brother in law who ordered it new in Kearney, NE. I drove it about 7 years till I thought it was just too rusty to restore in 1998 and another guy bought it to beat further down the road from me for $1200. But I won't lie and say it was ever that great of a truck. Mileage was good at 22 mpg down the highway but when the 700R4 went out cost me $1300 to have rebuilt. And the injection pump shucked later cost me another $1200 to replace and then it had a bad habit of eating new GM starter bolts about every 3 months. Had it down how to get the broken bolt out of the block and new GM bolt back in about 30 minutes. It sure was pretty especially back when it was new being black with tan interior and rally wheels and box rails. I wanted it then and had to wait 10 years and 100k miles later to buy it.

Re: How many 2wd diesel short beds out there.

Put a set of wheels that I had setting around on it since the others were bald and these have new tires. Going to be putting in another transmission soon. It works just not the way it should. Also fighting a low idle and stall issue once in a while.
