I absolutely love this truck. As soon as i am "done" my 69 I'm going on a mad hunt for a 66 stepper. Good work, love the farm look.

Re: The Egg Hauler.... not much of a build

Sold the tires off the wheels I just picked up and couldnt help but throw one on just to see what it would look like. Makes me wish I had some tires to go on these fattys now! I'll probably just end up selling them, but imagining what it might look like is making it a little tougher decision to make.

Hey rusty..I would call them baby moons. I have no idea where they are from. They came off my uncles 46 chevy truck that he had back in the 80's. Not original to that truck of course.

Re: The Egg Hauler.... not much of a build

Well, I sold the wheels last weekend at the Charlotte Auto Fair....I found two more 15x8s on craigslist where my cousin lives, so he got them for me yesterday. I will pick them up from him this weekend when I go back home for his wedding. Maybe I will hold onto these a little longer than the last set.

Also been working on getting the overdrive transmissions apart and cleaned up. All the overdrive parts are looking good, just the gears from the main case are junk from setting without the side covers on for what appears to be a pretty good while. I've got a spare trans with a good set of gears ready to go in though. Slowly, but surely....

Never been to a Goodguys show, just checked it out and looks pretty cool. Thanks...no real offers on the truck, just lots of folks asking about it though. It does feel good to see the interest that people take in it! Ever head of C and C automotive in Thomasville? I guess the fella that owns it stopped by to look at my truck and said he had a 292 he pulled from his 66 in his shop that he would sell. That's what I really would like to have...

I can't say that I have heard of them before. A 292 would be nice for sure.....

Re: The Egg Hauler.... not much of a build

Jump on that 292 dude...they are one hell of a motor. I bolted a 600 edelbrock on mine and it runs like a dream...great torque in the low range...course..it all stock on the inside..but for being 48 years old and 147,000 miles on it..it runs darn good..and still does 4800 rpm!! LOL! Turbo time!

Re: The Egg Hauler.... not much of a build

Picked up my pair of 15x8 steelies from my cousin when I went home for his wedding a couple weekends ago. We didnt have room in the car so they're still with my dad and brother in their shop for the time being. These are Kelsey Hayes and aside from a bend on the inside lip of one wheel, are in great shape. My brother just scored a set of the same Kelsey Hayes with baby moons like I've got from a junkyard local to him as well. We've been on a 15x8 steel wheel frenzy lately!

I decided that instead of swapping the gears over from the standard SM318 transmission I had, I would try my hand at redrilling it to work with the overdrive housing assembly. There are two extra holes in the overdrive cases...one for the overdrive shift rail, and one that is an oiling passage. I did the deed, drilling two holes and after a quick test fit, it looks like this will work well for me. Now I just need to get a set of gaskets so I can get it all back together. I've found the SM318 gaskets but am having trouble locating the gasket that goes between the overdrive and the adapter. If I can't find one...any reason why RTV or similar type sealand wouldnt work?

Re: The Egg Hauler.... not much of a build

I'd get some of the sheet gasket material and trace and make your own. I know that Pep boys has it and I've seen it on ebay. Comes in a few different sizes and styles.....cork, rubber, acrylic....normally around $10-12 for a roll or a couple sheets.

Didnt know they made that! You've been giving me all kinds of excellent info lately! The gaskets that come in these things look like they aren't much more than card stock....maybe not even that heavy duty

Re: The Egg Hauler.... not much of a build

You may be also able to find it at Grainger and some plumbing supply houses. Had to fix a leaky old pump hooked to my moms well a few years ago and used the same gasket material to fix it. Made my own gaskets in all. It was ten bucks or so.
