"Mid-ship" bearing?
On the my suburban I have a bearing between my front and rear drive shaft coming off the back of the trans. Its held in place by a cross member. I have heard it called a mid-ship bearing but I havent found anything online about them. Is that truely the name?

And remember there are 2 different types of that bearing ... which ever you may call it.

Or you can remove it and put a one-piece driveshaft in it's place!

Well I went through a couple of these bearings on my burban over the years found the more I improved on the power output the weaker this point , so I opted for a upgrade from CPP and replaced the "TearDrop" style bearing with their Billet / Poly version no problems since and the HP is still being put to it . Was told I would have issues down the line by installing a 1 piece drive shaft so ... Pluggin for ya Jeff

http://www.classicperform.com/6092chevtrk.htm it is about 3/4 of the way down the page listed under "Slip Shaft Driveline" it is part# CPPCB Carrier Bearing - billet & polyurethane its going for $109 ... but was well worth it in my opinion.

The stock carrier bearings can be damaged by rear axle movement. The reason is my rear half drive shaft has no slip yoke and pushes on the bearing during suspension compression. Mine is going to get a rear slip yoke along with the urethane carrier bearing.

Ya there is something about feeling and hearing your driveshaft doing a jump rope under truck when your running 70 mph in the left lane on the 635 loop.
