Re: Don't see a NOS FM radio too often...

I have never understood why people bid up with days to go...with the exception of an opening bid so they dont pull it........nice find though.

Watched that shoot up another $625 over the last 20 seconds. Someone got an early Christmas present, congrats.

I wasn't bidding, I was just watching; but which one of you got it?

Re: Don't see a NOS FM radio too often...

Wow, bidding went wild in the last few minutes. Was watching this from time to time, jumped $700 with several bids at the last few seconds. Final bid was $1,825 with 33 bids. Wow, more than I gave for my truck when I bought it back in '85.

It weren't me, LOL. Nice piece but WOW !!

If a board member bought let's here some braggin' rights going on. That has to be one super RARE option in a NOS condition.

Re: Don't see a NOS FM radio too often...

Wow....$1825....for an am/fm truck radio.
Well, for the person that bought it...I'm sure they can afford it but it makes very little sense to me.

I too was watching. Hope someone here won as it really appears to be a nice piece. Congrats to the winner.

It was worth $1400 to me. Never makes sense, but It is cool to have cool stuff I consider unobtanium.

Re: Don't see a NOS FM radio too often...

wow. just wow. I want an am/fm as much as the next guy, but if I hadn't snagged one on here a few years ago for a couple hundred, I'd be priced out of the market these days (even with prices on here, not just an $1800 NOS on ebay). Prices are skyrocketing, kinda crazy. Supply/Demand, I get it, but still. Really nice radio, would love to have had that puppy! I too hope someone on here got it and it goes to a good cause (i.e. doesn't remain shrink wrapped to sell for $5000 2 years from now, but rather ends up in a truck next week).

Re: Don't see a NOS FM radio too often...

That's just an insane price ...But remember what happened to the prices of Camaro parts about 15 years ago ? it was common to see $100,000.00 cars selling at the big auctions , now they are 1/2 that ...This is just the beginning on the trucks

Re: Don't see a NOS FM radio too often...

I believe that in 1972 this FM radio would set a buyer back by $175. Please let me know if this is incorrect. Per my query on WolframAlpha, the 2017 value of $175 in 1972 based on the Consumer Price Index is $1028.52. It was a pricey option in 1972 and good used examples maybe undervalued today? I don't know. This example at least beat inflation. Not mine but maybe the owner will live stream the opening for us?

GM Heritage Center says 1972 AM/FM was $145. For comparison sake, the AM was $67 and A/C was $410.

Thank you. Adjusted cost on that figure is $852.20. $2409.67 for AC

The dealer price on that radio kit was $97.71. Couldn't tell you what the mark-up was, but I'm guessing $145ish, so you wouldn't be far off. The kit was discontinued in 1973.

Re: Don't see a NOS FM radio too often...

I think I remember doing the math one time based on production %s in the "Standard Catalog" and coming up with about 3,500 AM-FM radios ordered in 1971/2. It was the lowest option ordering % of the various choices published in the book. That was a small pool to begin with and of course it has been depleted by time. While I didn't, and wouldn't, pay near to $2K for one, a factory truck AM/FM radio is a rare and desirable accessory. Examples that are priced right, working or not, do not last long on the FS forum.

Re: Don't see a NOS FM radio too often...

How many of the stock installed new am/fm's were pulled and tossed on a bench so the owner could install a new aftermarket cassette player ? Or an am/fm 8 track cb ?

Re: Don't see a NOS FM radio too often...

the pulled radios sat next to the air cleaner, the rims and the exhaust manifolds. If we only knew....
Wouldn't buy a radio all wrapped up, lose value if taken out of package
