Found a junk 68 w/ 292 and power mirrors...

Quick story... The owner was driving by the GM dealership in grand rapids in 1986 and an S-10 caught his eye. Ordered a new one and parked this behind his garage. Still ran and drove fine he said, but was getting old and rusty. Fast forward 29 years, i get a call from a guy who is cleaning up the property and knows i collect old trucks. Couldn't see it go to scrap without saving a few parts... 292 is still full of oil, radiator still has fluid and the engine turns over by hand.
What is a 292 core worth? I would think the 15" split rims would be scrap also, any opinions on those?

That was my thoughts on the rims also... Watch the parts board this winter, will have at least 3 on the chopping block.

Well they're RV Jr mirrors on the SPID. Or West Coast Junior mirrors. I don't think they were powered. More like they were made by the Power Company, like Tyrone Power or Power's Irish Whisky.

They are power, i think the switches above the radio must move them.

Re: Found a junk 68 w/ 292 and power mirrors...

I love power mirrors, as I use those for parallel parking and backing up all the time. If I could find a period correct thing for my truck I'd buy it.

If this power mirrors work, I'd be interested.

I'd also be interested in the 292, although I have no immediate use for it but it's a strong 6 cylinder and "different."

Any chance "power mirrors" means they are electrically heated?

They do have the company logo, but look at the rusty logo about it, it looks like it says "Power Mirrors" with a lightning bolt separating the words with "Patent..." something below it.

Pretty freakin' cool. They appear to be an aftermarket add on, but still really cool.

Can you get some better/close up pics of the top/bottom of the mirrors? I'd really like to see what the rotating mechanism looks like. Also post the Patent number, we may be able to find something through google (can't quite make it out).

Cool old truck Eric, I could swear I've seen an advertisement somewhere for those power mirrors. Looked thru all my Silver books and nothing in them, sure were ahead of their time.

If you were closer I'd give a couple hundred for a decent 292 complete. And twice as much for the mouse nest in the glove box.

Hard to tell from Tucson, Pal. I never heard of that in this vintage, but, hey, What do I know? Oh yeah.
I didn't see the wire input the first time. Interesting.
