59 GMC 100 Fleet -- Fan blower switch

All the dash knobs and delete knobs are black plastic. I do not have the standard heater/fan/vent control as heater defrost is manual near the heater box.

Does anyone know what switch is used for the fan blower? Was it a 3 speed switch, rotary or push/pull?

Where is the factory dash location for this fan switch --- right hand top closest to glove box?

thanks

Probably no help, on Chevy it is a rotary 3 speed switch for the 59. My FIL had a 55 with a two speed rotary switch. I realize you have a GMC and it may be different.

Are you talking about a rotary switch like this?

Re: 59 GMC 100 Fleet -- Fan blower switch

Do you have one of these?

Left is deluxe heater and the right is the standard heater. Deluxe has defrost/heat function in the same switch and the standard is just a rotary switch with the heater/defrost control down on the heater.

Re: 59 GMC 100 Fleet -- Fan blower switch

Dennis Brooks, That looks like a Chevrolet dash, not a GMC. On my 59 the heater rotary switch is located right of the radio tuning hole (lower left) where the curved panel is. It was a switch with "off" "low" "med" and high fan speeds. the knob was black and looks very similar to the wiper knob in shape, but used a simple shaft with a flat section to engage into the switch shaft.

Could not find a picture to show with this post.

OK, it's a fleet GMC, missed that in your signature the first time. And in the title!

I have not seen much data on those trucks but I think they used what ever was available. So Yes looks more like a Chev dash than a GMC dash.

Re: 59 GMC 100 Fleet -- Fan blower switch

I am guessing, somewhat as I removed a later aftermarket 3 position push pull switch ( 2 speed) from the hole closest to the giove box. There is probably a Fleet out there that is oem but the only one so far I have seen on the web had changed to the Deluxe config.

I saw somewhere someone who had a build book for the 59 GMC Fleets.

Also, this GMC had a Spicer 45 rear diff and it appears on the frame that the rear shocks are like an "A" from the frame mounts to the rear axle. I do not see any shock mounts on the axle.

Anyone have a pic of the rear shocks mounted on a 59 GMC or Chevy? I changed the 45 to a 67 12 bolt set up for leafs but will have to do some shock mount mods.

Re: 59 GMC 100 Fleet -- Fan blower switch

This is a Chevy dash. Here's a quick pic showing what all the holes are originally for. You have a heater delete plate and a previous owner/user either used one of these existing holes or an under dash rotary switch. What does the heater look like? Also looks like you have only one vent cable - there was originally two. The pic you have on the left side of the column have the headlight switch on the left and the choke on the right as it was originally.

Re: 59 GMC 100 Fleet -- Fan blower switch

The heater is a Harrison with two defrost ducts and a manual lever on it to switch from defrost to heater or somewhere in between. There is one wire coming from the fan motor.

It does work I have not tried it on a variable speed yet. Heater/defrost assembly is in good workable shape including the core.

It may have had a vent cable to the passenger side as the mounting screw is under the dash vacant.

I really think that the fan switch was in one of the 2 right holes and there is a delete plug missing from one of them. But maybe it did have a clip knob --- will look at bottom lip of dash.

I will get a pic of heater.

Be nice to see a 59 GMC Fleet stock dash.

Anyone have a pic of the rear shocks mounted -- 55-59 probably?

Re: 59 GMC 100 Fleet -- Fan blower switch

That looks like the recirculating style which would have a rotary fan switch located somewhere. If you’re not using the upper right hole, that would be as good as any if it works for you.

Re: 59 GMC 100 Fleet -- Fan blower switch

Agree. There is a choke cable but no throttle. Usually is a throttle on these old trucks so I will fill both holes eventually.
