DIBS on a flowmaster!!! yes, just one. my pathetic truck is a single farter.

BTW, keep track of the J55 brake code. you will need it for parts look-up. are you swapping the rear axle as well? I would, for better brakes.

Yeah, 67_C-30 has rear discs from a 98 ot so C3500.

It was a nice weekend here so I worked on the truck a little. I added hydraulic fluid and the bed goes all the way up now. The pump does leak, so I need to pull it off and replace a couple seals.
I also pulled the points system and added HEI. I haven't fired it up yet. I pulled that section of the wiring harness and ran a new 14 gauge wire from the firewall to the new distributor. I was just dropping the distrubtor in when my kids woke up from nap. I tried turning it over and it wouldn't fire. I haven't had any time to play with it, but I am sure it's something simple. Hopefully next weekend I will get a little more time to play with it.

We'll see what happens Todd. I haven't even checked for spark yet. Actually, I didn't even time it. I dropped the distributor in at the same point that the old one was in. I will probably start by getting it to TDC and then check for spark.
Kristine doesn't work next weekend so I should have some time to play then.

I got out of class early tonight and spent about five minutes on it and got it running. The first thing I noticed was that the plug wires were backwards. I don't think it was allowing the coil terminal to contact in the boot since the spark plug boot is a little deeper than the distributor boot. Once I turned them around she fired right up. I do think the distributor is off one cog of the gear. I don't quite have the adjustability I want for timing, the cap hold-down screw makes contact with the block so I can't turn the distributor enough. If I move it over one cog I should have it just right.

I had class again, so I haven't worked on it. My little break was between two classes.
It runs fine right now, I just want to move it one tooth so I can adjust a little more if needed. I have not hooked up a vacuum gauge to check the timing, so I need to do that too.
I will probably move it one tooth tomorrow and set the timing by feel. Then I need to get it weighed so I can register it. I sort of haven't registered it yet, so no license plates yet.
The vacuum gauge is at my dad's so I might go get it this weekend. Maybe I should just buy my own vacuum gauge.

I'm doing the front disc conversion also on my one ton ,with the help of a fellow board member.I got my conversion from a 1984 dually,and it did have a big sway bar.I got to clean all the parts.That was a lot of fun"NOT"..Anyway hope to get it installed soon,taking the old engine out and cleaning up everything before it goes in.Here is before and after shot.A dump in the future also,if I can find one for a reasonable price.

Those parts look nice and shiny castiron.

Today I took the truck to the landfill. The truck ran great. It was pretty comfortable at 45 mph. I think 55 would be winding it up prettty good.

Todd - the truck weighed 5640 with myself and Chris in it. I would guess we were at or above 5300 pounds when we pulled it behind your truck. That's quite a load!!

interesting, I would have guessed more. and to think I have hauled that much IN my truck. that was in town though, not on the interstate and certainly not on ice.
any idea what the trailer weighs?

More progress today. Todd (68c15) came up and adjusted the valves. We also set the timing, changed oil, new air filter, replaced fuel lines, and replaced a vacuum line. She runs very well now. I hope to get the hydraulic pump off tomorrow and then I can get the seals replaced and we should be ready to work hard!

We also went to the dump twice today. The last time we pulled in behind a 40 - 60 series dump truck that looked like a 67 or 68.

BTW, I am not sure I want to be involved in anything related to that truck ever. last time I did we all know what happened. today IT left us stranded, in front of a NAPA. on the good side at least it wasn't snowing or even close to cold out. LOL

I drove it again a couple minutes ago. It runs like a sewing machine. It's quiet, and smooth.

Todd, I took it to the electrical shop today and we measured it up for battery cables. They are going to make them when they get time, so it will have new cables tomorrow or Wednesday.

I also borrowed a couple of big wrenches today so I should be able to get the PTO pump off this week and get the seals on that replaced.

The battery cables are done but I forgot to pick them up. They are not your ordinary parts store cables.

The PTO pump is off. I will take it to Hydraulic World in Sioux Falls on Thursday. Slowly I am getting this thing going. After the bed is working to my liking I will tackle the brakes. That will be a long weekend project. I will probably have to call on some reinforcements for the brake project.

Here you go Todd. My uncle overbuilt these a little. They are 2 gauge. They should work a little better!!!

That's a quarter and a dime next to the cables to give you an idea of their size.

my 80 K20 had dual group 27 batteries and 0000 welding wire for cables.
