67 hood on a 69-72 chevy - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have a question for anyone willing to think about this. So far I'm stumped so i wanted to see if someone else had any ideas about this. I was wondering if a 67-68 hood would fit on to a 69-72 chevy. I got to thinking about this when i was thinking about the GMC pickups because GMC used the same front fenders from 68-72 and the 68 GMC's had the more curved hood and the 69 GMCS used the more boxy hoods. So wouldn't a 67-68 hood fit on a 69-72 chevy???

That's the pic I was looking for.
if you just go out and slap a sloped hood on a 69 - 72, it won't even shut. The hood will hang out over the grill.

Yeah, lots of time and patience will be needed if you want to do this mod correctly, it sure looks good though.

So how did GMC do it, the hoods arre the same for 67-68 and 69-72 as the chevy right ? And the all 68 up gmc fenders are the same as 68 chevy, So did gmc cahnge the grill in 69 to fit the hood ??? Thanks

I talked to him at the goodguys show in Tallahassee in 2004. His fuel inlet is in the driver tailight also and it is as good as the picture. On the hood fitting didnt look as good as it does in the picture TO ME. Everyone has different tastes. Him and the guy in the 65 beside it goes to all the shows together they live in central ALABAMA somewhere.

The guy in the green truck is from Huntsville ... North Alabama.

The way GMC did was like this, all cheby and GMC hoods are the same, but GMC used the 67-68 style fenders through '72, but since in '69 the general changed the sloped hoods (67-68)to the different ones (69-72) GMC had to add a front bar on top of the grille to make up the difference in lenghts for the hood, I have a pic of a 69 GMC, notice the chrome bar in front of the hood, 67-68 GMC didn't have that.

Hope this made sense to you, sometimes it doesn't to me lol

Thanks for the info guys, Darn it, I have a perfect 67 hood and my 70 has hail dents, plus I just like the looks of the 68 hood better, I would change the front clip, but my 70 has near perfect fenders and the rad support isn't even rusted out under the battery.

As pretty as these trucks are,that hood on the green one makes them look 100% better.The general should have done it that way,IMO.

The location of the hood latch changed in 69 as well. If you use a 67-68 core support that problem would be fixed.

Dandeluxe, that's a heck of a deal, long road trip for me though,my 68 is going to the painter tommorrow, and I will start fixing on the 70 soon, If you stilll have that hood in 1 or 2 months I may do the road trip, I'm 10 miles from Minnesota border. Thanks.

I am in the process of the 67 hood swap on my 72 Suburban and i love the look of it. Had to cut about 2.5 inches off the front just to start and then trim a lil more for a better fit.

If you remove the bar between the grill and hood on a 69-72 GMC would you then be able to put a 67-68 hood on a GMC with no other changes?

To me it looks like the hood latch would also need to be changed.
