Re: Project -underfunded - '68 shortstep/carb'd LSx/200-4r build

thanks mac. yes there's room...the 2nd combo I came up with was actually farther back then it is now (3rd combo). In that position....no there wouldn't be enough room.

I like the new headers too. I think they are a deal compared to some of the other options out there.

Re: Project -underfunded - '68 shortstep/carb'd LSx/200-4r build

Been busy ordering....Flowmaster 3" exhaust kit, 3" turbo mufflers, clamps, hangers, etc.
then ordered all new Moog front steering parts, a 7 circuit painless circuit boss, 10ga and 14ga wire in various colors, and a fuel system plumbing kit with 1/2" fuel line and 8 AN braided flex line kit....still more to order.

getting a driveshaft made locally for 600+hp for under $300...and still need to order my cowl hood, trans lines, and I can't remember what else. My daughter comes in 2 days and I still have a list of things to get done to her Jeep....where does the time go?

Re: Project -underfunded - '68 shortstep/carb'd LSx/200-4r build

Thanks! The closer it gets...the more excited I get about firing it up. I thought it was interesting that Flowmaster uses a 2.5" cross pipe (comes w/1 straight & 1 slightly bent in the middle) in their 3" w/H-pipe Universal exhaust kits.

Just read thru your entire thread. The LS Swap looks great, can't wait to hear what it sounds like with the new exhaust. I'm interested in doing a similar swap to my truck but i'm doing a complete frame up now with a 350/350 combo to get it on the road then i'll do something else after the restoration is finished. You have given me inspiration.

Thanks all. I should start on the exhaust this weekend and hope to fire it before the end of the month.
No doubt on the video....my camera doesn't record stereo I don't think...but it does have audio to go with the video!

Re: Project -underfunded - '68 shortstep/carb'd LSx/200-4r build

I just bought Summits turbo's that they offer. I'm not really going for "bling" underneath...and felt they'd probably sound about the same as others with exception of maybe MagnaFlows.
I'm guessing they are either made by DynoMax(Walker) or Flowtech, but it could be someone else. They are the 9.75 x 4.50 x 14.00in (18.5" overall) size. The only thing that concerns me is the mention of 2.5" core...which I didn't notice until after I had ordered. The FlowMaster crossover is also 2.5" so I guess I'll just have to see how it comes out....since just about every exhaust system is an "experiment"....and you just hope the combo comes out all right.

few more things ordered...CPP and Summit. Got a different trans crossmember for running my exhaust over and a few other things. Summit had a sale going on...so I spent too much...again.
Found I could get a pair of these for just over $300 and way less then the $400-$450 and up solutions.

these?

so what are these? uego's!

Re: Project -underfunded - '68 shortstep/carb'd LSx/200-4r build

I thought about having 2 harnesses with an O2 sensor on both sides, and have a switch between them going to a single gauge. I could see both sides... but only one at a time? The FAST dual sensor system comes in a little box, and I would prefer to use gauges.

I was surprised to see these at nearly 25% off. And I wanted the analog dial style VS the Digital one with a colorful array of LEDs. This way now with 2 O2 gauges I'll be able to check things out the 1st time I fire it up. I still plan on taking it to a buddy's dyno and getting it dialed in.

WOW great work, can't wait to hear your motor run its very very similar to the one that I just build. Only difference is I built mine off of an LQ9 and I added the L92/LS3 heads and LS3 Intake and mine is obiously still fuel injected. I'm also running the same cam, Comp 223/231, .610/.617, 112lsa, didn't think I would find another old C10 running the exact same cam, sweet! I've only seen it used in newer cars and one F-body.

Thanks! Interesting how tastes bring folks together! Seeing your dd....my old truck was a 2001 GMC Sierra C3....the predecessor to the GMC Sierra Denali and the Silverado SS. How so? The C3 was the 1st full size truck to get AWD and had a 6.0L LQ4 when you could only get 5.3's in 1/2 ton trucks...the same NVG-149 thats in your SSS!

SO.......how do you like your cam?

SO.......how do you like your cam?
Cool those GMC C3's and Denali's are super nice trucks! As far as the cam goes it sounds great, and seems to idle very nicely with the computer tuned for it but still needs to be tweaked a little bit. I see you also have a Trailblazer SS those are awesome SUV's!!!
