94 chevy tbi
So is driving my 94 4x4 Chevy to work the other day and I gave it a little throttle to downshift to get around a horse trailer and it just completely died out on me I had to have it towed home cuz it wouldn't start up I got it home I kept trying to figure it out I had a buddy mind come by and he actually remove the gas cap and the truck fired up but now I show a code 54 so something's wrong with my fuel pump or wiring for the fuel pump not sure

Re: 94 chevy tbi
Welcome to the board!
A code 54 happens when the computer does not see power on the circuit from the fuel relay to the fuel pump, when the computer is sending power to the relay to apply the relay. Usually this code is cause by a bad fuel pump relay. The code 54 problem should not cause it to stall, unless there is another problem, because when the engine has oil pressure a redundant circuit supplies power to the fuel pump. This circuit goes through an oil pressure sensor/sender. This circuit is independent of the fuel pump relay. Here is a test you can do. If you unplug the fuel pump relay while the engine is running it should keep running. If it dies the oil sender or its wiring is bad or the engine lacks oil pressure. Here is a second test you can do. If you unplug the oil sender while it is running it should keep running also. If it dies the fuel pump relay or its circuit is bad. Keep in mind there is a redundant circuit (two circuits) supplying power to the fuel pump when the truck is driving down the road. 1 – The oil pressure sender 2 – The fuel pump relay
