Hydro Boost vs Vac Boost vs No Boost

So I'm at a point in my build that I have to decide on brake boosters...or not. Hydroboost has it's own set of issues and I have all but decided against that. Vac also has it's issues at low rpms with a cam. I'm almost ready to use a large bore Wilwood MC with no boost. I know a person or two that have done this with good results. Any input is welcomed and considered. I know it's a trade off but I just can't make up my mind.

Re: Hydro Boost vs Vac Boost vs No Boost

From the post it sounds like you have made up your mind.

After having all three systems on different vehicles, there was no hesitation in choosing hydroboost for my build.

I'm not sure what you've heard about hydroboost but the only issue I've had with it is that it works awsome....ivenbeen a hydro fan ever since I pushed my first hydro brake pedal..
but I agree..it sounds like you've already made your decision. .

Re: Hydro Boost vs Vac Boost vs No Boost

Actually, I haven't at all. I'm sure we all tend to lean in certain directions. I've never owned a hydroboost system so what I know is based on second hand knowledge. The buzz word I heard is leaks. Leaks aside I would be all over the HB. I'm sure if they are installed correctly it's just like any other quality product. And one I may very well be the owner of really soon.

Re: Hydro Boost vs Vac Boost vs No Boost

once you get use to hydroboost feel you will never go back .

i got a unit from a 90 suburban 6.2diesel 2wd and swapped it in my 85 c10 build .

i have a unit now orignal from 1979 k30 still on frame but newer cab and no problems over 300k miles . and i live in the rust belt .

Re: Hydro Boost vs Vac Boost vs No Boost

I went to the junkyard and pulled a 150,000 mile hydroboost unit and replaced all the lines and cooler and love it, no leaks.

On late model vehicles with v8/v4 displacement on demand engine vacuum goes low and the factory runs a little electric vacuum pump to supply vacuum as needed, and is mounted in-line. Pretty small and it was on a thread here a little while ago.

Re: Hydro Boost vs Vac Boost vs No Boost

Large bore manual brakes? I thought manual brakes had bore sizes around 1" or so?

I have a hydroboost setup. If I had to replace the whole braking system today....I would put in another hydroboost setup.
