P10 LS swap

Just wanted to share a few pix of my P10 Stepvan. It's getting a 4.8/4L60 swap. With the 3.73 12 bolt it should be a nice cruizer.

Re: P10 LS swap

After looking off and on for years I finally found one on Craigs local in 2014. GM made 2 lengths in '73, a 7 foot and 8 foot floor. This is the shorter one. Has the optional full width doors in the back which is nice. I put on tires/wheels, lowered it. Used it for camping, tailgating, moving, and crusing around. The 250 6 cyl, 4.11, T350 was no bueno on the highway so long trips were kinda stressful. The LS and overdrive will be a huge improvement for that. I like that the 4.8 matches (withing a cubic inch) the original 292 straight 6 that it would have had from the factory.

Re: P10 LS swap

Even though this is an LS swap thread, I’m curious about the lowering aspect of the van. I see that you flipped the rear but the shocks appear to be in the same location. Was a shock relocation not necessary? Also, the addition of the airbags. Did you put those on to accommodate heavy loads?

I too have a 1973 P10 that I will be lowering soon.

Re: P10 LS swap

Wow! EVRLET nice P10.

The rear shocks just have the extenders you get for a regular C10 axle flip. Yes, stock location.

I did the air bags on top to help with the ride height when carrying a load yes. Since it's so close to bottoming out I don't have as much suspension travel as before. The ride is nice. I run with a few pounds in the bags even when empty. It helps settle down the 'bouncyness' - probably from the shocks being at a flatter angle.

Any C10 suspension mods apply to our trucks. It's just the wheelbase that's shorter, 102" (less than a blazer).

What kind of highway mpg do you get? Someone tried to trade me a Willys project for one of those.

I drove it all over for a couple years. It was my only rig for a couple months. Had my fun with it and traded it straight up for Kenworth box truck.
