Question about new Parking Brake Cables

I was nearly ecstatic, because I figured to be educated on original park brake systems. But then I reached the rear cables. Looks like I have some things to pull before I approach that. I need a rolling truck before she's set on jack stands for restoration. Still have never done a brake job This is a full tear down, and it's getting close.

Anyway, I know enough to say I need new front, intermediate and rear E-brake cables. This build is original intended, but I have my limitations (e.g., exhaust, radiator, quasi-original A/C). In your opinion, should I waste my time chasing NOS cables, or can you recommend real good replacements?

71 Custom Deluxe, SWB, 2WD, 402, A/C. I developed an assm. guide "kit" for restoring it from ground up. With assys, the guide accts for 1000s of OEM identifications and part numbers, all written in short order. 700+ images include assm, illust., charts, and points of interest. If you can find a set of reproduction cables that fit and function as intended, it's doubtful anyone would know the difference if there are minor variations in appearance. NCRS allows reproduction parts on Corvettes that are indistinguishable from the original parts. My Duntov Vette has quite a few quality reproduction parts and scored 98.96 points when judged. While I admire your drive for originality, this is not NCRS, and I doubt these trucks will ever be subjected to that kind of judging.

I'm using my originals. Just cleaned them up and made them look nice.

Thanks J............Mine aren't worth a clean. The intermediate cable is frayed, I jacked up the front trying to pull it from the frame (which turns out should have been an easy removal), and the rear dust boots are shot.

From my angle I agree, there doesn't seem to be a value using NOS, other than it works. Odds are good one of our finer dealers have something nice, such as Wes.

The dust boots are available separately. I think I got mine from Classic Industries.

Here's a picture of my left cable installed which shows the boot. I think your truck has leaf springs though.

I bought a complete set from inline tube. They look and function just like original. The kit came with all the proper dust boots etc. To install. I upgraded to stainless so the rear cables won't rust solid like my original ones did.

I got a pair of new rear cables from Napa. In stock and they fit with no problems,

Yeah Jim, leafs are definitely a different bracket & location. At least the location. They're riveted below the "no name" cross-member, 3rd from rear. I suppose I could call it "front of rear leaf spring cross member"........

The connection and boot look the same. I'd heard you couldn't replace the boots, but I'll probably get new rear cables regardless. I still need to pull them, see what I've got.


Thanks for all the responses. Inline tube sounds like a great option. Forgot about them. They seem to have a great rep. for brakes.
