Rear Axle swap.

I have an all stock 1965 C10. I am purchasing a doner frame from a 1974 C10. I was only going to use the front cradle to do the disc/power/sway swap. As I kept looking at it I began to wonder if the rear Axles can be swaped into my 65 rear end so that I have 5 lug all around ????

Re: Rear Axle swap.

I believe the axle is wider. You could swap the entire axle....

Re: Rear Axle swap.

Nope they won't go. They are wider.

Re: Rear Axle swap.

I thought so. So that 74 rear end is basically useless for any of my 65 parts.

Re: Rear Axle swap.

You could maybe use the gears.
The 74 is 1.5” wider and can go under your 65, need trailing arm mounts, leaf mounts remove and new panhard bar.

Or...pull your 65 axles and get them welded and redrilled for 5 lug, don’t forget to get the center turned a little to fit 5 lug wheels!
Or go aftermarket and get new Moser axles that will fit and have 5 lug.

Good luck!

Re: Rear Axle swap.

You can put the complete '74 12 bolt under your '65 (cutting and welding required) or you can simply purchase aftermarket conversion axles for your '65 12 bolt. I would only have the original axles plugged, drilled and machined if the wheel bearing surfaces are very nice.

Re: Rear Axle swap.

I looked into getting my 9" axles re-drilled for 5 on 5, and it was about the same price to get new axles. I got new axles.

Re: Rear Axle swap.

Let me know if you dont use that 74. I’d be interested in getting the rear gears if you part it out or dont use them
