What enging do you want in your truck?

Ok i did a quick search and didn't find a poll about what engine to use.

If you could put any engine in your truck what would it be and why?

Re: What enging do you want in your truck?

LSX - for a realistic answer ()

Cheap and easy to come by, relatively easy to install, a lot of reliability, tons of aftermarket.......

Re: What enging do you want in your truck?

For a cheap ls engine, go pick up a truck 5.3 out of a late model Chevy or gmc

No question a cummins 12v is a better engine... But - it comes with headaches for swapping - ie beefing up frame/suspension to handle weight & torque involved.

6.2/6.5 while not sexy - still roll the coal, are relatively reliable, and stupid simple...

Only other option is that F*rd monstrosity... Binders should stay in tractors

Re: What enging do you want in your truck?

lsx is going in mine. I got it mounted last night.

It will be de-tuned to around 700 hp for starters to see how the chassis handles it.

I work with these engines as a hobby so I prefer them.

My camaro runs 9.90's with the same exact set up & gets 25 mpg.

Of course these are turbo set ups.

My truck engine I mounted last night is a 98 LS1 block, 2001 6.0 chevy heads, the front assesories & intake are 2000 chevy 5.3, and the exhaust manis are 2007 C6 corvette. I have a ton of work left to do so it won't be on the road for a long time.

Re: What enging do you want in your truck?

I would definately go LSx. The engine in my truck right now is awesome, but my work truck has the 5.3 and I like it lots. So when I need to go engine shopping again I'm goin for the 5.3 or maybe a 6.0 out of a truck. Easy swap, lots of goodies for them, reliable and good gas mileage.

Re: What enging do you want in your truck?

I have a 350 going in mine, pulled out a 283 which I would love to put back in. But with overbore pistons running $50 a piece I cannot justify the expense at this time to get it bored.

Re: What enging do you want in your truck?

My 50 3100 is getting a 348. Why? When I pop the hood I want people to say " What the heck is that?"

My 54 Suburban is getting a turbocharged Grand National V6. Why? Because I have one and it would look great in there.

My 50 Bus is going to get a Cummins.

Re: What enging do you want in your truck?

I voted original. It would be a 248 I6 in my case. I will have to settle for the later 250 thats in it for now. It seems to run real well so what the heck. I have several other V-8 trucks so this engine in the '55 works for me!

Later---DAC

the 6.0L (about 325 hp stock) out of a late model Chevy/GMC truck/tahoe/suburban/etc is ideal. a simple head swap can net you around 500 hp. Problem is they are more expensive and harder to come by.

the 5.3L (about 300 hp stock) out of the same trucks is popular because they are everywhere and you can pick them up cheap. I've seen engine/tranny/wiring harness packages on ebay for around $2k, even cheaper for higher mileage engines (like 70k miles).

Also, engines later than 2004 (I believe) use the drive by wire system, which eliminates throttle linkages.

Package all of this up and you get an old classic truck, with a high tech drive train that has loads of power, runs very smoothly, has fuel injection, and gets decent fuel mileage - all for less than the cost of a crate engine with equal horsepower. Throw in an aggressive cam and you'll have a hell of a sounding motor that will run you 200k miles no problem.

I'm going with a 383 LT1 because I already have it, and spent too much money on it.

thanx thats the answer I was looking for!!!! I think 500 cady plans will have to wait...as good as my 327 runs I want a bit more everything... power and mileage.. I drive mine everyday and it's never going to be anyting more than a Kool DD I have put 3000 miles on it since I fixed the speedo 2 months ago and it has only worked for less than half the time I have been driving it... since I pulled it from the death weeds...

Re: What enging do you want in your truck?

my GMC has a Chevy 235 in it now and I might just keep it. The hardcore guys say get a 302 Jimmy but my thought is if (IF) I swap it will be some thing I can get real good MPG after all I want a driver not a poser.
The LS engines sound pretty inviting.

Right after posting this i found a GMC 302 for maybe 75 $ Hmmmm

Re: What enging do you want in your truck?

i voted other. because like others said. ide go the cummins route. cuz backed with a 6spd trans you can get a cummins to bark like no other deisel ive ever heard. the cummins is 2nd behind the v12 detroits in coolest soundin deisels in my book. but a detroit wont fit it a c10 too well haha
