Anyone have a LED tailgate bar?

I bought a 60" Recon White Lightning for my truck back at the end of July but never hooked it up. Yesterday, I got my trailer wiring harness from LMC so I installed that and figured I would test out the LED bar. Everything works, the running lights, turn signals, brake lights, but I didn't wire up the reverse lights. It looks good, the only thing is the brake lights and turn signals are barely brighter than the running lights. Has anyone had this problem? Is there something wrong with my truck or do you think the light bar might be defective? Thanks.

Wink Re: Anyone have a LED tailgate bar?

I would say it has to do with the LED bar and regular bulb's in the brake lights. Just a guess though.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Anyone have a LED tailgate bar?

Make sure that light bar has a good ground. Usually when LED lights have a poor ground, they illuminate very dim. I have one to put on my Longhorn, but I'm far from having power back there.

Re: Anyone have a LED tailgate bar?

I remember reading something about resistance issues when trying to do this with my street bike.

I'll see if I can find the article. Not much help, but should give you a start. A lot of "tuner' guys do the LED swap should be a lot info out there.

Disregaurd it had to do with hyper flash

"This so called "hyper flash" or "rapid flash" problem is caused when the total wattage for the turn signal light circuit drops because LED bulbs have a much lower wattage than stock filament bulbs. For example, a stock 7440 filament bulb is 21W, but a 7440 LED bulb ranges from only 0.5W up to 3W max."

Re: Anyone have a LED tailgate bar?

My Buddy has had 3 different light bars, every one gave him problems, bulbs go it, some would fade/ stop working. He said they aren't worth their money. He stopped using them.

Re: Anyone have a LED tailgate bar?

I moved the ground to the frame but the turn signals are still very dim. I don't think adding resistors would make a difference seeing as the signals still blink at the normal pace. Any other ideas?

Re: Anyone have a LED tailgate bar?

One guy on the net had his running light wire and brake/turn signal wire reversed, but I imagine you checked that. Lot of guys running led light bars when you search the net add Forum to the end of your search. Try to change up the words "i.e. ask the question like an 18 year old with no mechanical skills."

Example turn signals in my new tailgate light bar are hecka dim Forum"

I did a couple of searches, but can't access a lot of the sites due to Internet connection problems (I live in the country).

Sometimes I ask my wife how she would word the question, you'd be amazed at the results.

Best of luck

Re: Anyone have a LED tailgate bar?

I used the plug and plugged it into my trailer harness so none of the wires are reversed, but thanks for the idea

Re: Anyone have a LED tailgate bar?

Do you have a good 12 volts going to the bar?

I haveput several bars on trucks and have had issue with only one bar not working right. I had to return it and get another. I have run them for several years and goign strong.

Re: Anyone have a LED tailgate bar?

On my 40 ford I had to install a special flasher for led lights. It is a lower amp draw flasher and had a ground wire you had to hook up. That might be the route you need to go too.
