Just wanted to know if anyone could give me the "total" rear-end width with tires and adequate clearance for a fleetside box. I don't have a box presently and am trying to plan what rear-end width and the back spacing I will need

I don't have measurements, but I have 275/60s on 15x8 wheels and they JUST clear without rubbing on the inside or with the outer bedside.

Thanks guys, but I don't presently have a bedside to measure. I am building my own frame and I am not going to use the 62" rearend that comes standard. I'm planning on using a 8.8 disc brake out of explorer or a concerted disc brake 8.8 out of a Ranger. I'm planning on running a min of a 12" rim. I will more than likely buy a rim blank and have the stock center refitted for the back space I need. I was hoping someone here could give me just a total measurement.

Why are you using such a small rear? At least use a real full size rear. 9 inch, 12 bolt, or the like. A big tire and wheel combination will stress the weak parts. If your build a rear frame, measurements don't count till the final setup, then you get rim backspace. 18x9.5 with 4.5 back space 295 / 45 / 18

A 8.8 with 31 spline axles with 3-1/4 inch tubes is hardly small /weak apparently your not much or keep up with the drag racing scene. A 12 bolt is a joke compared to a 8.8 the only advantage is it weighs more.I'm simply using the 8.8 because it is plenty strong for any street duty use and it is already plenty narrow for the wheel/tire combo I'm looking to use.

The measurements we did today with some pinch weld grinding is 74" with a little to spare. Im doing 20x9 5 1/4 inch backspacing and 63 1/2 is my max flange to flange.

My outside tire to tire is 76 1/2". Tire is pretty tight to the fender, I have trimmed the inside of the fender flange and rolled a bit for clearance. The inside to inside of the fender flanges is 77 3/4". 335 tire on 12" wide wheel, not sure on backspacing would have to dig that up. Good luck, sounds like a cool project.

Ok, here's what I came up with.

On my '66 Suburban with 275/60R15 tires on 15 x 8 Rally wheels (3-3/4" backspacing) the outside to outside of the tires measures 74-9/16". This is with a stock 62" width 12 bolt.

On a Fleetside bed, the distance between the wheel tubs is 50-3/8". The distance from the inside of the wheel tube to the lip on the bedside is 13-1/2". This makes a lip to lip measurement of 77-3/8".

I understand them moving out for discs, but why did they keep moving them out even more with the newer trucks.
