1968 Factory Delco AM Radio Troubleshooting Guide?

I searched "Radio" and got 160 search results from the forums. Didn't find a troubleshooting guide. I ordered a new 8 ohm speaker from S&M Electro-Tech, and installed it.

No light on the radio, and zero sound. The sound went out a couple of years ago. Then the light.

I have a good digital multimeter, and I'm good at troubleshooting.

Is there a good troubleshooting guide available somewhere online for these radios?

I have three AM radios and would like some information on them also.

The one in my truck worked for a few minutes then stopped. It was drawing a lot of amperage as the wire was getting too hot. I removed power from it and have not touched it since.

Pop the top and start fixing it!

I fixed my 64 impala by finding a bad solder joint and replaced the bulb.

My sons factory am/fm on his 86 re-soldered all of the speaker connection solder joints in the radio and the speaker started working. You could get them to come on/off by wiggling the connector at the back of the radio.

Simple machines.

I have 2 AM radios. One is model #11TB1. The other is 91TB1. Based on the numbers on the covers of these manuals and the fact that one is from my 69, my bet is that the first digit is the last digit of the truck year. They both also have Product No. 7305841 on the labels.
Based on that, I did an Internet search and found this:

Thanks guys! Are there any things that I can check with my multimeter and a flashlight before I yank the radio out of the dash?

yes, remove the plug from the back of the radio and make sure you have 12 volts to start...make sure the key is on....

Seems like I read somewhere that turning on the radio with no speaker attached could damage the radio. Don't know if that would include a non-working speaker too or not....

Here is a quote from a members post....

The first thing I'd do would be to get a known good 8 ohm speaker and connect to the radio. You could burn up the output transistor trying to play the radio with an open speaker, or none at all.

I'm sorry to be such a pain and keep asking about this. I just yanked my radio, and it has the same model number. 7305841.

That first link that you sent (thank you) has 7 search results for that model number. Do you know if there's a difference? Obviously, I'm looking for a troubleshooting/diagnosis/repair manual/guide. Maybe these are just schematics, and the troubleshooting is up to Google and me?

I remembered that website from a previous thread and don't have any personal experience. You could email Sam's and ask them which applies to your radio.

Unless you really have an attachment to that radio, it would probably be a lot easier to replace it. It appears that the AM radios generally sell for under $75 based on the sales on the parts board. The junkyard near me sells them for $15-$20 when they have them.
