Head bolt Torque specs for 2011 5.3l Vari Cylinder Enginr

I need the head bolt torque and sequence specs for the 5.3l variable cylinder engine from a 2011 Suburban. These heads have 10 mm head bolts only, no 8mm bolts. I can find up to 2008 5.3l torque specs but those have 8mm head bolts along the periphery of the head (10mm bolts in the center).

The LS gen 4 (07-13)engines have 11mm/8mm bolts. There are 15 bolts per head

The LT gen 5 (14+) engines only have 10 bolts per head.

Are you sure you have a 2011 5.3?

Re: Head bolt Torque specs for 2011 5.3l Vari Cylinder Enginr

I guess I had some bad information. It is a 2011 Suburban 5.3l with 15 bolt heads. In that case, it should be the heads with the 2nd design bolts, and I already have that torque sequence and values, unless the bolts were redesigned again between 2008 and 2011.

Am I correct that the bolts were redesigned and not the head or block? In which case, if I were to work on a 99-04 engine, I should get 2nd design bolts when I replace them (since they are TTY bolts) and use the 2nd design torque procedure?

I would order the correct bolts for the engine. 99-07 were still gen 3. (Gen 4 started in 05 on the trailblazer/envoy, 07 with the new body style trucks) there are some overlap years.

This is the procedure for the 2011 5.3.

Thanks for the torque info.
I always use new bolts for TTY fasteners.

Rather than the stock TTY bolts, I opted for ARP .....more on the price, but you can reuse them...Longhorn

Re: Head bolt Torque specs for 2011 5.3l Vari Cylinder Enginr

the difference between '1st design' and '2nd design' is the length of the bolts, so they are not interchangeable when buying a kit.
The block's threaded holes were changed, heads didn't change.

you must use the 1st design (8 longer bolts + 2 short ones) for the early engines...since the threads are deeper down in the blocks on 8 of the holes. You cannot swap to 2nd design bolts on these blocks. They won't reach the threads.
