The Price Of WHEELS (56)

I have a rear end that is 60" wide in a 56. The ideal wheel is a 18x10. The backspace should be around 5". Looking for wheels has been an interesting thing as this appears to be a custom size. $2500 (rims, no tires) OUCH.

Am I not looking somewhere or considering something? Is this the only way to go? Maybe Spacers and vet wheels? I wanted to stay with a 40-45 series (low profile) tire on the back and not sure about the front.

I'm not one for wheels that are more than 16" so I would look for something in that size.
I'm putting 15s on my truck.

What style of wheel are you looking for? These 18x9.5 Coys' are are available in 5" backspace and are half that price...

Hey Bobinbc and Rusty: Those are great options. Nice. How far in from the fender can I be with the tire and wheel and still look good? My max outer lip of rear fender to fender is 72" and my rear end is 60". This gives me 6 inches per side of wheel clearance till I hit the fender.

First thing I would do would be to start looking for other modern vehicles that share the width, offset and bolt pattern.. you mentioned a vette.. probably not bad place to start.
Once you have that "match" figured out, you can look up aftermarket rims for that vehicle.. you'll find they're alot cheaper that way.

next, 18" is kind of an oddball diameter. Its not very common outside of a few OEM applications... if you race or like smaller wheels 17" or smaller is the common tire.. if you want big wheels, 20" is the most common. 18 and 19 are kinda in the middle and "lost".. tires cost more, and wheels are harder to come by.
If I were you, I would either run 17s, or run 20s... otherwise you're looking at over a several hundred dollars more to have it rolling on something.

Wheels are a personal choice and in my opinion they can make or break the look of a car or truck. 18's are not uncommon at all I'm running them on my 55 Sedan (18x7 front, and 18x10 rear) and they are not anymore expensive the 20's actually they are cheaper, just like 17 are cheaper that 18's if they are the same width. Now you have to consider tire choice also. Do you want meat or low profiles? Some sizes of wheels have better tire choices as to the look you are going for. Do you like the rolled lip, or the step lip, polish or not, all of this stuff is personal choice.

Hotrod1 no one can really answer you about your wheel choice. I believe when you build a car you have to follow a theme and part of theme is picking the right wheels and tires. You should go to shows and look at trucks (that are done similarly as yours) and see what you like and don't like and start writing down tire sizes and stuff like that before you make a decision. Also when you look at magazines and like a truck check out the wheels and tire size.

I would never buy wheels just because they are cheap, its too important to the overall look of the truck, but there is no need break the bank either. Man you can get wheels for way under 2500 I know I have. That price would be wheels and tires for me.lol

Hello hotrod1, I am running exactly this setup, a 9" rear axle with 5x4,5 bolt pattern and those wheels:



10" * 18" rear and 9" * 18" front.



I found them for a reasonable price on ebay.

hotrod1, if you haven't checked them out yet, check out COY wheels. He makes them in different sizes and bolt patterns. Only problems is they are limited to the backspacing he has available. His prices are really cheap for what you get.
