Down but not out.
Was fighting that ole A word (probable too much baseball when I was younger) and bone spurs in my right shoulder. Then in Oct I tore a couple tendons in the other shoulder. I ended up going about 7 months before the city would let me get it fixed and the doctor said if it was any longer he probably wouldn't have be able to fix it. Ok 5 months and I can sleep on my stomach and I can close my truck door without a cane. Doc said it would take a full year before I am back to normal. Tendons were tore completely away from the bone. He used sugar screws to reattach them to the bone Hoping it works.

Re: Down but not out.
Oh how those old aches and pains can turn into restrictions and limitations. With arthritis you wonder are you hurting yourself by still doing what you figure brought it on or are you keeping range of motion up. I think the A word is as much or more hereditary as any other reason.
Bone spurs sure do suck. That's usually from going at it too hard over and over. I had that in a heal from hitting the first rung on the ladder going from walking to climbing. That summer I got fed up with help and was running siding on houses alone. So all up and down and I mean hustling butt. Tendons tearing is no joke. No quick fix on those. I wish you a full recovery on that. Just have to keep from going crazy letting that arm be. I wonder if these injuries are from pulling yourself up onto the fire engines. I know a lot of guys who drove trucks ended up with a bad shoulder from years of that, and probably a lot of going hard at it. I still have to work for a living, and don't see an end coming too soon. I'm having to learn new ways to do some things and maybe even start limiting what I take on. Yet I feel if I stopped things would go downhill. We're a lot like our trucks. They'll just keep on going, but after so long the joints go bad (tie rod ends, ball joints, drag link ends, u-joints, steering box...)

Re: Down but not out.
Man, I can relate to the tendonitis, I've got bone spurs that poke out from under my collar bone or clavicle (can't remember which) and too much swelling of my rotator cuff causes it to jab into the spur and swell more - which is a dog chasing its tail.
Seems sort of like when a kidney stone gets stuck passing thru your ureter, your body clamps down on it. Neither one is remotely comfortable, but I'd take the tendonitis any day. Shot of cortisone or two usually does the trick. I started getting arthritic flare ups in my smaller toes this year. I'm hoping to keep it away from my hands as long as possible! Sorry to hear you're in rough shape. Hope you see speedy relief!

Re: Down but not out.
Best you can do is find the right regimen for your cause, as in regular exercise, warm-ups and stretch. No doctor or surgery can do what's best for you. Good luck get better.
