LS mounts

Anyone know of a bracket that mounts the engine mount further forward than these.

That brown/dirty part is the crossmmeber. So the factory engine mount sits maybe 2-3" behind backside of crossmember.

Can you weld?

Ive done a few different mounts (some better than others). I usually put the engine where I want it then build mounts from there.
Here is a set on a 72 Nova

Hey
Can weld ........ not quite as nice and clean as yours - but enough - the front crossmember was welded in by yours truly.

Had figured this might be what I need to do on the frame side => to connect engine .... but need a way to bring the actual engine mount forward on engine itself.

Most of the stock LS engine side mount brackets are for SBC. So I think worst case I will go with something like the one linked ... or get some SBC engine mounts ...

The ones you linked would work just fine. If you are starting from scratch I would just buy a set of poly bushings. Cut your own plate and for the engine side and use some cardboard to make the rest of the mount.

You can google to get some good ideas. Since you have an older truck I personally would try to make something that fits the style.

Dont have a good way to cut anything except a grinder with cutting wheel.
Guess I could do that and just mark and drill the holes. Would help with the "custom" fit around anything.

1/8th inch stock for mount plate ?

Little heavy duty but might work ok.

That sleeve would be fine. They give a bit more than I would prefer but for a not high hp application it would be fine.

I would use 3/16'' for most of it. You could do 1/8'' for the mounts but make sure you are boxing it or designing it really well.

Thx.Since you guys are on here -asked in another thread. I know genrally want to try and get engine all the way back ..... for radiator/fan clearance etc

But how about height so tranmission gets in etc. Guessing about 1" off the crossmember ..... but since mines not factory ....... any rules/ideas on setting height.

Sorry missed this part. Cutting disc on a grinder is fine. I have used a harbor freight sawzaw for 90% of my truck. It is 20 bucks when it is on sale. Less of a mess too.

I picked my engine placement and built everything else around it. The swap I did on the Nova (the first pic) I had to fit it around everything else.

Here is what I would do:

1. Make sure all the engine components are attached. Same thing with all the components on the truck.
2. Remove the previous mounts and trans cross member.
3. Position the engine where you want it for height, depth, etc.
4. Jack up (or lower) the rear of the trans to your desired angle.
5. Use jackstands, angle iron, 2x4's, etc. to hold the engine in place while you either build the mounts or make jigs to build the mounts off the truck.

If I were to do another set I would buy a set of adjustable swap plates like these:

Then you cut a piece of 1'' OD .250'' wall tube that fits in the mounts. That way all you have to do is build the mount to it. That's what I did for the Nova and it is wayyyy easier.

Thanks !!! ^^^

Biggest problem is Id like the engine to sit around 1.5" maybe 2" off of the crossmember so I have more clearance to the lines that run via the bottom of the PS pump and the AC. Thats with keeping everything in the stock location. Spending $800 to relocate everything in a high mount configuration and throwing away a perfectly good AC comrpessor just seemed like a waste.

However ...... its solves problems like this ....... and others ...... so I might just move that way.
