67/68 Grill hoop fastners

Must be an easier way than fighting these hoop fastners. Guess mine are made in China and are giving me serious grief. Is there an aftermarket tape available with these studs allowing me to secure them to the grill? Or what am I doing wrong? Should you install them in the grill first or the hoops? Once you put them in the hoops they don't slide just in to two pieces. Previously I have installed these and had no difficulty guess I am forgetting something. Seems before they were a pain in my buttocks then too though.
Any ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I mounted all mine in the trim and bolted them on. It helps to have the grill off the truck like you have. I placed my trim on and marked the back side with a marker to give me a point where to install the clips.

I've had this problem too. Thanks for the tip.

Re: 67/68 Grill hoop fastners

Finally got them installed. Still not an easy task. I used masking tape to mark the correct spots as the clips slide but with some difficulty. Would have thought someone would have made an improvement with double stick molding tape from 3M.
