Just looked at a '64-'66 K10 short fleet

Just went and looked at a '64-'66 K10 Short-Fleet.
The truck was a Florida ranger's truck... the cab rotted from the inside out. Even the dash, next to the steering column, is rotted.
It's got an extra bed that could probably be saved, a nice extra hood, didn't get a good look at the extra door in the bed.

292, Granny 4speed, Deluxe heater, full instrument cluster (no tach or air gauge, block-off-plates), and power brakes. Non-stock wheels.

For me, one of the big points of interest was the complete PTO winch set-up.

Guy is asking $2,500 for the whole thing.
I've already got a line on a divorced NP205 and complete PTO from a member here, so probably wouldn't be getting it. I'm strapped until the middle of April, with every dime going towards producing my Gear Jam Vintage Drags.

I'd hate to part out a factory 4x4, but I've already got a '62 Long-Step K10 that is the truck I really want.

Two questions: Anybody have any idea how many short-fleet K10s were made? (I've read the numbers are available... I don't know if it's '64, '65 or '66).
Where is the VIN tag on these trucks?

Last question: Thoughts?

Re: Just looked at a '64-'66 K10 short fleet

The VIN tag is in the drivers side door jamb just like all of the '60-'66 trucks. It is also on the frame in the same area as on a C series truck.

I have seen the production numbers also but all I remember is that in '66 the short step K10 production was only a little over 1200 units.

Re: Just looked at a '64-'66 K10 short fleet

1965 K1434 633 were made 1966 K1434 678 made . No numbers 64 on back. Brad , Old Cars weekly In Iola Wisconsin published all the numbers from 1960-1966 . I used to have a copy from their magazine. I called there once but was not able to convince them to look. Any ideas ?

Here are 65 production numbers with a break down, as you can see K1434 is a very low production number truck, save it.

Re: Just looked at a '64-'66 K10 short fleet

Went back and found the VIN today.
K1445A

According to the VIN decoder on this site:
K: 4WD
14: 1/2-ton short bed
4: pick-up truck
5: 1965
A: Atlanta plant

Not sure why there is a discrepancy between the VIN decoder on the site, and the info on the article shown.

I was at a junk yard today and might have found an excellent donor cab off a '65 C30, and they also had a short fleet bed over by the take-off truck beds, but I forgot to go look at it. I'm going back on Monday.

The K10 is REALLY rusted...
