I always liked the Jackman wheels for the way the spokes go all the way out to the hoop.

Re: Old School 4x4 Wheels

My next door neighbor has a lifted '86 Suburban he put 8-lug axles under. He showed up with a set of Jackman 6-spokes from his dad's place. Must have had them laying around for decades. Those are a hot looking wheel

I never realized that type of wheel was called jackmans. I had a set of 16s I sold on cl this past summer. They were 8 luggers.

Re: Old School 4x4 Wheels

There were other white spoke wheels with spokes to the rim. Jackmans will have a "J" on one spoke stamped in. My dad had 10" wagon wheels made by a shop here in Maryland for his '62 Land Rover that were made that way.

Those Wheel Vintiques 16" steel wheels are a great new school wheel/tire combo for the old school "look". Never had those back in the day, though. Those 8-hole alloys are a clean and simple alternative for a wheel you can buy today. I guess they came around in the late '90s. Way back when, Cragar made "Mach 8s" that looked just like those, but never made 8-lug version.

Re: Old School 4x4 Wheels

We always called the steel white spoke rims Sand Rims. I've had so many incarnations of that rim on just about every buggy I owned back in the 70s. I can't run another set, tired of them. They were cheap and a dime a dozen... and that fit the bill! If I remember correctly I think they started out with fewer fatter spokes.

A set of chromed Wheel Vintiques stockers without caps would be very period/old school. Be a great choice on a Deluxe Two-tone or any other with all the factory chrome.

Re: Old School 4x4 Wheels

True Jackmans are nice wheels if you can find them. Six spoke are probably my favorite and I am still kicking myself for not buying these 16.5x9.75s.

Re: Old School 4x4 Wheels

I always thought about chrome reverse 8-luggers. They were never produced and no chrome shops I ever talked to would plate wheels. Now that Wheel Vintiques makes these I suppose it is possible. I have the 5-lug 8s & 10s for my '67 when that is done.

Here is a picture of my neighbor's 6-lug Jackman "Stars"

Re: Old School 4x4 Wheels

I've had my '72 K2500 now for 15 years. I was looking at pictures I have of it over time and came to realize that truck has had 6 different sets of wheels on it since I got it. It was all stock with 16.5s, 9.50s, and caps when I bought it. First thing I did was put the 9.75 white steelies with 33/12.50s on it I had on another truck. Then I was going to sell it so I put those tires on a set of 8.25 Turbines since they are my least favorite between slots and wide steelies. I didn't sell it and those tires got dry rotted, so I put a set of factory 16" steelies, caps, and 235/85s on it. Then, when my '92 K3500 died I took the 7" Accurides with 255/85s and mounted them. The wheels were argent from being on the '92. I got a '95 K2500 suburban so I painted the Accurides Charcoal Metallic and put them on it and put the factory 16s with 235/85s back on. Then I finally lifted it, so I put the 9.75 slots on with 35" BFG A/Ts. One off those grenaded so the slots came off and the Accurides went back on with no hubcaps this time. I ordered a set of Wheel Vintiques 16 x 8s but probably won't buy tires till next spring. So, if you count the two colors of the Accurides (one w/caps and one w/o) and the 8" Wheel Vintiques, that makes a variety of eight. and, all ol' school!

That's totally my favorite look for wheels! I was VERY disappointed to discover that you almost cannot buy 16.5 tires anymore!

I love the 68 body style the MOST!

Re: Old School 4x4 Wheels

If I had the funds to pursue it, I would start having aluminum slots made in 17". It would be a wise move for someone to consider. Maybe I'll start buggin' Corky on this the way I did on the steelies

Yep, fell in a whole, dead in the water from a jo-jo maneuver. Not a picture I'd want taken or shown if it was mine. Might have tweaked that thing permanent like. Front wheel appears to be pushed back into fender. See how the light is only hitting the lower rear of the fender? Not good

Re: Old School 4x4 Wheels

Anyways back on topic.

If you want new 17 x 9" US Mags, Ronsrims1 (ebay) is selling US Mags' Indy wheels drilled in the 6 x 5.5 1/2 ton pattern.
I'm not sure if they can or should be drilled for a 8 x 6.5 3/4 ton application. But if someone wants to dig about for information (including max load capacity) and get back to us, it would be appreciated.

These are great wheels, but for the life of me, I don't know why there's such little material between the lug and hub hole, seems like a good area to develop a crack, are they making the hub hole to large?
