Is this possible from the factory

I came across the following ad for an "original 64 K10", my question is would a SWB be available with 3/4 ton axles from the factory? (Below is a copy of the text from the ad.)



My best research would indicate that this is a unaltered 3/4 ton SHORT BOX frame and chassis - although it COULD even be a ONE ton version. VERY VERY RARE either way!

ORIGINAL UNALTERED SHORT BOX PERIOD CORRECT FRAME! ORIGINAL SUSPENSION - lift blocks and all components are stock and unaltered. .
Over load (dual) rear leaf springs.

Front Differential: SPICER 44 with 12" brakes and "Power Train" locking hubs. Rear Differential: EATON model H011 heavy duty with 4:56 gears. Indestructible rear end type - popular with tractor pullers. Full floater.
Transfer case: Original Heavy-Duty TIMKEN #221.

NICE CLEAN interior with original seat. No mice smells!
1/2 ton BODY/sheet metal. Beautiful STRAIGHT tailgate! Box rail tops near PERFECT condition. Even the roof drip edge still has the caulking in tact all the way around! Needs cab mounts, rockers, front fenders and hood.

My gut says no - I've never seen a factory 3/4 ton SWB. With that said I guess anything is possible, look at Johnny Cash's Cadillac. This truck might have been picked up at the factory!

Being serious, without documentation I don't know how you could prove it was factory. Without provenance it's not original.

Still be a great truck to have.

(side note: I'm building a '70 SWB K20 and going to make up a fake RPO code for the SPID showing the "heavy Duty Axle" option along with the L31 Vortec, seat heater, etc. Not doing it to scam someone, just having fun with it)

probably a 2wd converted. Ask what dana44 is in front. If it's a closed or open knuckle. Get a picture of the diff. HO11? Guess the guy is is old school, I haven't called a dana a spicer in years, but used to do it all the time. Not sure if it matters to you or not what axles are really there. You can swap them easy enough. But the short step is a cool configuration to work with. Alot you can do with it.

yes and no

if you ordered a certain spec'ed out chassis set up in an economically viable volume them GMC would....possibly... accomodate your needs.

but for a chevy, I'm not so sure

I did know of a genuine factory K20 short panel truck. It had the HO52 rear with No-Spin, 327/4spd. It belonged to a mechanic where I used to buy gas down where we were building houses in the '80s. I was in a '71 K/20 at the time and we taked and looked at each other's trucks a lot. I really wanted that thing, dark blue original paint and he had 9.75 aluminum slots on it.
