Re: First time for me ,,but tall ladder climbing is over

Those are great pics. I used to work for Swinerton & Walberg. I worked on a few steel towers, from ground break to top off. It was quite an adventure as a young man. More so than the Army... for me anyway. That's when the iron workers used to climb around like acrobats. My understanding is everyone's on a safety hookup now. I was on the 4th and Hope project in Los Angeles in 1981 when the crane toppled and yanked the construction trailers, used as offices, into the hole 100' down. What a mess! I watched a few people get killed on those jobs. After that crane accident, we cut up all the cable and sold a truck load every night for a couple weeks for beer money until the cable was all hauled off. Tuff hard working men!

Stay safe.

Makes me glad we dig ditches and level spots to build on for a living.

Iron workers from NYC were the silent heroes of the Oklahoma City bombing.

Back on to your original question, I'd answer yes. I'm not in my golden years yet, but my working career's been a long hard ride for sure. I'm still climbing and carrying but am to the point of trying to not carry as much weight as I used to. I come home hurting from all sorts of things I do. Pretty much have learned to live with it, but when I go a while on lighter work it sure feels great!

I find myself lately wondering if my siding days are over. Just finished a complete re-side insurance job on Friday. This guy had extensive landscaping/shrubs/trees all over, no grass at all, and it would have been crazy for me to have done it alone like I usually have worked since '05. I still have the muscle to throw a 30' walkboard up on my shoulder and carry it around the house, but I feel like it's bad for the bones and joints now. I look at that scaffold when it's home on the rack and wonder when they day will come I sell it off because I don't want to use it again. Feel that way now, but that's what I do, just not every day now. If the phone rings I'm taking the job.

Re: First time for me ,,but tall ladder climbing is over

I'm nowhere near my golden years and I won't do a lot of stupid things I used to.

...and you learn as you go.

This was only 15' of scaffolding... after I got that side completed I said hell no to anymore of the house being done off scaffolding.

So I got this big toy from a friend:

The left side of my house is +/-38' from ground to roof peak:

I'm almost done, this pic is from a couple months ago. The siding is all up. All I have left now is to redo the soffit and tin (garage is done and most of house is down as of last night) and install the shutters.
