4.2 liter

Do any of you guys know if anyone has planted a 4.2 from a Trailblazer into there trucks?

If that's the aluminum inline 6, those motors are absolute garbage.

180,000 miles without an issue and still running strong, excellent fuel economy, tons of power... I really don't think the one in my Envoy is garbage at all. I've always wondered why more of these are not swapped into our trucks. Seems like it would be a fairly easy install and one heck of a great daily driver setup. They bolt up to the same drive train as the LS motors and we all know that swap has been done a time or two before, so the output end shouldn't be all that hard.

I had a Trailblazer with this motor, and it was a good, solid motor... I'm sure some have had bad experiences with them, but who hasn't had a bad experience with a certain motor.... I like to be different, I don't care to do what everyone else is doing, hell, if a VW, had the power I would try and put one of those in my truck, just to be different....

I have heard of them breaking crankshafts but that is usually near or after 200,000 trouble free miles. Go for it.

Sold my TB with the 4.2L engine in it earlier this year, 224K miles and no problems with the motor. Hope my Dodge Challenger Hemi lasts as long.

There's better and cheaper inline 6s out there to swap.

The oil pan is gonna be the problem. I'm sure some one would do the harness it might cost a little more than doing an LS swap but the oil pan was made funny then it has the axle tunnel for the front driveshaft. It would take a custom setup to get it even to sit down in the bay I think. Jim

For me its I want the driveability simplicity whatever you want to call it of EFI

And lets face it if you want to go EFI on a SBC its not cheap compared to what you can pick up a drop out motor for

I'll stick with my simple 250 1bbl with HEI. Very simple stuff.

Just started out reviewing these rigs (engines) by far my initial finds are positive. I'm looking at a Trailblazer or Envoy for a light duty off-road/small trailer puller.
I think swapping one in anything is cool. Certainly not boring.

That is the most reasonable route for sure just not the support that other stuff has

It is one route I am considering for about 900 I can get a setup that is stand alone based on the original tbi setup. But most people can get a complete ls dropout engine for even less than that

If I could do one myself that would be optimum just don't really know how or where tonstart

Working on it right now, but I haven't got far yet. They are a great engine and with a little boost they can make some serious power.

That hood looks seriously reworked from stock, cool car. Years ago Car Craft has an article about a few 10 second Nova wagons powered by that engine.
