Fitting newer 6 lug wheels

With the newer 6 lug Chevy wheels having the smaller center bore, can I use a spacer to fit them? Has anyone tried this?

Thanks!

What wheels are you considering?

I don't have a set in mind. There just happens to be a lot on Craigslist and FB Marketplace.

Re: Fitting newer 6 lug wheels

I think you'll have to use a spacer because of the offset and centerbore difference..
Seems like 1 1/4" is close for Transit wheel conversion so Aluminum wheels should be close.
Never tried but someone will pipe in.

Re: Fitting newer 6 lug wheels

You are correct that CL has plenty of these sets floating around. I know some don't like the idea of a spacer, but I did it for a while
I used 2" spacers and these wheels (16x7"?). It was lowered in back.

The challenge would be removing the rear tire. say if you had a flat or just maintenance. I would have to use two jacks (one under rear differential and one to lift the body a bit) to get the clearance in the rear wheel well.

I eventually went back to a stock wheel 15x5" and tall skinnies. I have the torsion bars turned down and 2" blocks with stock springs in the rear.

Re: Fitting newer 6 lug wheels

I asked the same questions a few years ago regarding my '63 6 lug. I converted to front disk brakes so wheel fitment up front was not a problem. Most replies advised against milling the wheel or using spacers. I ended up pulling the rear axles and having the center of the hub turned down to fit my new wheels.

Good info. I've ran spacers before on a different vehicle without issue. I know all too well about the rear tire issue. My '64 currently has 275's on the rear and due to current wheel's backspacing is within an inch or two from fender lip. Changing those were a PITA with drop springs, but with air ride now it is much easier!
