Re: wheels & tires for 55, 56, 57, 58, 59 truck

I have a 58 fleetside (32), saw some wheels I like on Craigslist but wondering if they clear the rear wheel well & front calipers. Tape measure says yes. Wheel size are 15 x 7 front & 15 x 8.5 rear, 4 ⅛" backspacing (wheel mount surface to inside edge of rim) . I need to pull a front tire off and make sure it will clear my calipers, my stock steelies are pretty close. Looks like it will just miss my e-brake cables. Anyone running this set up?

Aluminum slotted mags or kidney beans, not sure what everyone calls 'em.

Here's an example. Also, I'm planning to do 2" drop shackles and remove a couple leafs out back, and Sid's drop axel up front if that helps

How are the tires? It seems like the internet didn't think they were good quality a few years back.

might not be able to remove the rears if you have lowered your truck at all
i run 8x15 w/ 4 backspace i jack up the frame with axle hanging and have to wiggle the tire out from between the fender and hub
a lot depends on rearend width, i run a gen3 camaro 62'' wide

Good point, might be pretty tight. I have stock rear end, not sure of width but I can look it up. Do you know stock width off the top of your head?

just sold the 20" and went a bit retro. Wheel vintique series 37 with 1953 centercaps. 15x6 on front with 215/70R15 and 15x8 on rear with 275/60r15

Re: wheels & tires for 55, 56, 57, 58, 59 truck

Posted pics on here before, but always grab a chance to show off my truck. Wheels are American Outlaw II, 15x7 front and 15x10 rear. Tires are 185x65 on front and 275x75 on rear. My idea was go give a '60s/'70s hotrod look with bigs and littles. Also to make steering easier and get a higher gear ratio, as the truck has stock 3:90 rear end. And a nice rake results also.

Re: wheels & tires for 55, 56, 57, 58, 59 truck

My 2 cents and I know my opinion on wheels isn't worth much on this board according to some says that what you have now looks just as good as anything the others showed.

Choosing the "right" wheels and tires for a rig is probably the most damned if I do damned if I don't think a guy can do on his truck. The wheels shouldn't dominate the truck to make it look like a wheel add nor should they look out of place like some that belong on a Jacked 4x4 on a nearly stock truck because that is what the tire store had in stock that fit the day the truck owner went down to by new wheels. I'd say for me a part of that comes from the local tire stores more often than not have exceedingly poor taste when it comes to selling a customer new wheels for his rig or the local customers have exceedingly poor taste in wheels for the most part. The gaudier and uglier the wheel the more they like it around here.

Re: wheels & tires for 55, 56, 57, 58, 59 truck

Looking for advise: Recently purchased wheel vintiques 15 inch smoothies for my 55, with chrome center caps and trim rings. After painting and mounting tires i put them back on the truck. The center caps fit fine on the rear wheels but not on the front due to the hub/axle protruding out to far.supplier offered a deeper, bullet style cap - they look like something off of a roman chariot from ben hur.
looking for deeper center caps ?
Wheel spacers may work?
Looking for advise

Spacers may allow the hubcaps to clear the dust covers on the spindles but will they cause the tires to rub the wheel wells? How much space do you need. The dust caps alone MIGHT be adding 1/4"

Ordered 1/4" spacers, if that's not enough I will try removing dust covers.

I too like your wheel set up 62lwbc10. I've been trying to detemine what I want to use.

1955cameo, try the wheel spacers and or dust covers, but as Dan said, you may rub your fender lip. Of course you could bend that under to clear. It's easy to do if that's your choice.

Re: wheels & tires for 55, 56, 57, 58, 59 truck

Thanks guys I highly recommend Wheelsmith. They manufacture the wheels in house and the quality is very high. I sent th m my stock caps and they modified them (via tig welding) so I could use them with their wheels, which was important to me. The powder coating outfit they use is really awesome too, the quality of the powdercoat is very high.
