Re: Found me a possible truck 1971 gmc swb

If you realy want the truck ( as I am positive you do ) sell the Cougar for 1200 or 1500 so you can get the truck. If someone was waffling at 2500 on your Cougar and is real serious about it I'd offer it to them for 1800 and they will probably counter offer you at 1500.00 and you get your truck. If you start at 1500 they will offer you 1000 or 1200. If the buyer is real savvy he/she will read you are anxious and probably offer you 1200 anyway.

Re: Found me a possible truck 1971 gmc swb

What? That makes no sense! I saw the Ad for the Cougar btw and with the rust in the roof and floors you should take whatever you can get. Not too many guys willing to pay the money to replace roofs on old Cougars these days. Unless your just using the drivetrain from that 2000 you posted, RUN. Hit hard, high miles and, that much rust does not end well for anyone.

How about lowering the price to get them to bite on the cougar? Easy money in scrapping. Got junk laying around or know anybody who needs their basement or garage cleaned out?

Deja Vu, all over again. Could swear I saw this exact same post a few months ago over in 47-59 only it was a 59 GMC. Hey Schrum, Step 1: Acquire truck. Step 2: Make post. But for pure entertainment, it's great to see ya back. This forum needs a popcorn smiley.

JMHO....
Sell the Cougar for whatever you can above $1000. The $'s you lose is the education you got from buying it.
Take the $'s and pay the lady, pay to get it home.
Now you've gotta truck, w/no tranny and needs body work.
Whats a rebuilt tranny cost?
Do you do body work? If not, whats it cost to r&r a pair of rocker panels?
If you've got rusty rockers, what about the rest of the floor, cab mounts, etc?
Got other means of transportation while your truck is under repairs?

Don't make the same mistakes I, and probably many others, have made just cuz you gotta have it.
Want and need are 2 different things.

YMMV...don t. ...

Re: Found me a possible truck 1971 gmc swb

You ought to do what these guys are telling you- if you have a couple people interested in the cougar and really want that truck- dump the cougar for whatever you can get. You said that lady is holding the truck just for you but the ad is still active on craigslist.....

I agree with that, but i'm super surprised that no one here has bought the truck first. I mean if it was a moral issue in giving him first dibs on it... its been 4 days since the original post! don't forget he is selling his 67 cougar for twice the amount he bought it for after only putting $200 into it. I won't knock the hustle. I actually like 67 cougar he is selling and if I wasn't building my 72 c10 I would offer him the money he's asking( not the $3,500 he listed on craigslist). if he really wants the truck I would sell the cougar at a fair price then buy the truck, or sell that vw and then buy the truck. but by all means.... PLEASE CALL THAT LADY AND ASK HER TO REMOVE THAT AD FROM CRAIGSLIST. good luck on the build once its in your yard. but you got to stop advertising it to everyone

I'm new on this forum but have been on a few others (Tahoeyukon forum) and know how douchy it'd be for another member to buy it first but like it was said, who knows how many lurkers are on here. If the lady won't pull the ad at least pull the link from the first post!

When I bought mine last week I was insistent on giving the guy a 25% deposit - he said he didn't need it from me. It was Sunday so I couldn't get all the cash and neither of us wanted to screw around with a check. I had to travel a few days for work before I could get back to pick it up so I felt better for both us leaving some cash!

Where it hasn't sold, I wonder if it is a genuine swb? With the mismatched bed, sport bumper, and camper mirrors, who knows. It may or may not matter to the op. Just throwing it out as a possible explanation

Re: Found me a possible truck 1971 gmc swb

Why don't you offer the cougar to the lady straight across for the truck? Tell her what you believe it's worth, leave out what you paid. Personally I think the 67-68 cougars are cool as hell and I cant believe you cant find a buyer for it. Try this website, http://www.racingjunk.com/post_ad?aid=32872 you can place ads there for free without photos and it doesn't have to be a race car. tens of thousands of guys check that website daily. I placed a ski boat on there and got lots of emails and a few calls.
